I'm currently driving my BMW i3 from Cincinnati Ohio to Flagstaff Arizona (posting this from Albuquerque). This was impossible only a year or so ago. There have been a couple of times when I was nervous about distances between chargers, but the, 'A Better Route Planner', app makes it foolproof. Especially if you connect it to your OBD2 port.

Which size battery have you got? People might not realise what you're actually doing.

I have the 94 Amp hour BEV, without the gas range extender. On a good day I have 130 miles of range if I don't take it on the interstate. At 75mph, like Texas and New Mexico, I have about 90 miles.

Same model as me! Great car.

For others, 94Ah is about 32kWh.

I love this thing! I've had mine since 2018 and I'm starting to consider upgrades, but none of the new crop of electric vehicles is nearly as compelling as this.

holy crap without the range extender, that’s incredible

It'd be easier if they stopped putting metal poles in front of all charging station parking spots so those of us with a trailer in tow could pull through easily.

INB4 disconnect the trailer nearby - can't, live animals.

INB4 protects the charging unit - no it doesn't because the unit is on the side 90% of the time (ignoring Tesla).

On my last trip with an EV towing, it probably cut our available chargers from 100+ to 5.

The ABRP app that I'm using to route plan asks me this question every time I charge, so I've become more aware of it on this trip. The Flying J/EVgo chargers are pull through and will accommodate a trailer. Maybe prefer those in whatever routing app you use?

Nice! Good to know.

I do use ABRP, unfortunately on this last trip there were no Flying Js. We did do somewhat OK in Fred Meyer or Walmart parking lots by just taking up multiple parking spaces or parking sideways. But most of the EVCS and ChargePoint places were either broken or charging at only 15-20kW due to summer heat :/

Not sure if the definition includes L2 chargers, but they mostly talk about "fast" chargers which excludes the L1 chargers

Didn't do an exhaustive search, but there is a Tesla one in Abbott

I believe the Buc-ee's built in Hillsboro has a bunch of fast chargers but I can't swear to that.
