What is plenary authority, the phrase that caused Stephen Miller to freeze up during CNN interview?

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/plenary-authority-stephen-miller-cnn-dictator-b2841627.html

What is Plenary Authority?

Plenary authority refers to a single government official having absolute power on a particular matter.

According to Cornell Law School’s Legal Information Institute, in the U.S., it is recognised as “complete power over a particular area with no limitations”.

Couldn't find an article with video, but here's the clip:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFMzhAvSyyg

It's not just disconcerting that he said the president has full and unmitigated authority...

It's that after he said it, he realized his best move was to fucking pretend he froze. That's how real it is, he just isn't supposed to say it yet

And since CNN refused to press it and went along with an obvious fake freeze, they get an obligatory: Fuck CNN.

CNN has done a lot of bootlicking between this and the “text interview“ they did with Trump

Rooskie91@discuss.online · 75 pts · 312d (7 replies)

CNN is owned by Warner Discovery, which is owned by private equity. They don't just lick the boot, they are the boot. All major media corporations in America are owned by the corporate elite.

Larry Ellison is trying to buy TikTok and his son runs CBS. Elon owns X. Zuck owns Threads, Facebook, Instagram, and what's app. Murdoch owns fox, but also News Corp, which runs The Wall Street Journal, The Times (of London), The Sun, The Australian, Herald Sun, The Daily Telegrap, and the New York Post. He also owns Tubi. Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post. Allmost all of the mainstream ways of getting news are owned by billionaires.

Ah yes, the mythical left leaning news sources.

CNN regularly calls for the dissolution of capitalism.

MSNBC cannot stop talking about that socialist revolution.

Mother Jones making the case for eco terrorism.

All those "lefty" news sources /S

Which is the least worst in the current landscape?

Doomsider@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 311d (2 replies)

No mainstream news is reporting what is going on. The only major group I know that is even doing decent reporting right now would be the MeidasTouch Network.

Everything else is either directly supporting this administration or indirectly supporting by reporting the facts with no pushback to the insanity.

Like if you had an old person who you were caring for and insisted on watching the news, what station would you pick?

criss_cross@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 312d

That’s a good point.

What a shitty situation to be in.

That name does get a good little snicker out of me, it's just silly. Too bad it's proponents are serious.

And apologized to this piece of shit. As if there's a technical issue that makes his mouth suddenly stop moving while the rest of his body continues to move.

Almacca@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 311d

A 'technical issue'? Are they saying Miller is some sort of android? He might need resetting to factory settings.

A face so ugly, the dog won't play with him.

Thing is, it's not half as ugly as he is on the inside.

Read a bit of history on him, the guy is massively fucked up, and I wonder what secret trauma he's got that made him like he is. It goes beyond just being a young man that was angry at the world and has grown bitter as he's aged.

It's likely something emotionally crippling and so traumatic that he will never face it.

My wife showed me a photo last night comparing him to a colon polyp. It was uncanny.

givesomefucks@lemmy.world · 36 pts · 312d

Well adjusted people aren't fascists...

So there's a selection bias, if they were capable of normal human interaction, they wouldnt be trying to force everyone into the same boxes.

We prevent that, by teaching social interaction to kids in school, the "humanities" that neoliberals and Republicans have spent 30 years stripping from public education

In about a year someone slips the term "King Donald"?
Or will it be a deviation from the norm and they go with "King Trump" to make it stand out from other kings?
