Leopards are not only eating the callers face, but her children, too. She voted for the obvious insanely corrupt fascist and now the checks stop coming. Welcome to your new authoritarian reality, lady, where the government really doesn't give a fuck whether you or your children die.

I feel bad for her children

And still they don't get it. Still they're asking to be exempt from the horrors, not to end them.
Sounds like a whole lotta nothing.
And why isn't it funny? Well. Seeing him cry would have been even funnier.

Love how it's always the same line with healthcare. "Oh its soooo complicated but we're working on it we pinky promise!" Repeated ad nauseum for 40 fucking years with absolutely no progress
captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 314d
There has been progress. The ACA has serious issues, but the reason they haven't repealed it is that it would be so materially destructive to the American people the party to do so would be completely out of power for at least a decade. It'd be Hoover-FDR situation all over again.
A_norny_mousse@feddit.org · 2 pts · 314d
The reply was also just lame. Usually they at least try to beat you with "superior knowledge", citing some reason or numbers, flimsy as it may be.
Politicians prepare answers for obvious questions or accusations. But I've seen it so often with this administration that they simply do not have any, obviously did not prepare for criticism. It's a form of delusion.
captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 27 pts · 314d
They had 4 years to fix it in the 10s, they failed to even offer a proposal. Now in 2025 their only solution is to stop paying for trans people's healthcare and once again cut government funding for everyone's healthcare.
Biden was all half measures but fucking hell it was something and he was looking in the right direction even if only to avoid actually taking the correct full measure.
Medicaid for all, with right to negotiate and restrictions on prices for medications that were developed through public funding. Also, increase the number of slots in med schools and actively work with the AMA and APA to deal with our medical professional shortage. Hell offer free retraining for any insurance workers who lose their jobs if they go into an underserved medical profession.
sundray@lemmus.org · 8 pts · 314d
I want it bad, but it'll be at least 30 years, if it happens at all; whatever laws get passed, SCOTUS will shoot in the back of the head.
Wilco@lemmy.zip · 11 pts · 314d
No, it won't happen. Republicans intend to make the position of president a dictatorship. They want themselves to be above the law as were feudal nobles of old. They have almost done it.
A_norny_mousse@feddit.org · 2 pts · 314d
Please don't give up. Seriously, the rest of the world is rooting for you, for this to end.
shalafi@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 314d
I'm likely losing my Obamacare after this bill goes in effect. Fuck me. Worked for 35-years, took nothing from the government, lost my job and all I want is a little fucking help to I'm employed again.

I figured out that the Republican Party was the party of assholes when I was 14 and haven’t been proven wrong once in the 30 years since.

What a slimey person. Giving half truths. Democrats are causing this, BS. Democrats are trying to keep the Affordable Care Act, which she is probably very interested in. Just outright lying to her. Democrats want 1 thing. 1, out of everything that has happened - 1 thing, and they refuse to give it to them. It's a complete power move, they want to be completely in control and refuse to give anything.
pelespirit@sh.itjust.works · 54 pts · 314d
Well technically, two.
scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech · 27 pts · 314d
Fair. Not even all the other cuts they made, they just want healthcare for people. Democrats do a lot of wrong, but this is one thing absolutely worth standing up for. The woman is right, people will die, and in this case if these don't happen people will in fact die.
captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 314d
This is also tactically sound. It's one of the most winning issues the dems have because it isn't abstract and it affects everyone in the wallet. This country may have a large portion that worships Trump, the national spirit, and (I looked up to see if there's a demon of hate, but the closest is Satan representing wrath which is kinda funny, but easy to misread), but plenty of Americans still worship our true national god: Mammon.
People hated Obama enough to hate obamacare back in the day, but time passed and the ACA is like the one nostril that works when you have a cold. It sucks and it better not go away without something better.

From what I can tell, being that kind of person is a prerequisite for being House Speaker.

Too bad this wasn't on Fox News. Most MAGA won't be seeing him getting slammed or this lady's sad story.
Plus, Mike Johnson doesn't give two shits what happens to this lady and her family. He doesn't answer to her, he only answers to Trump.
She'll get by somehow. The real question is, who is she voting for next election? Probably another Republican...."but this one is different" lmao. We'll see.
homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world · 49 pts · 314d
And, presumably, the last. I guess someone told him a bunch of MAGAts love calling in and he thought he’d scoop up some easy press.
shalafi@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 314d
Still, you would think he's be smarter. Republicans are getting their ass handed to them in town halls all year. They hardly ever take on the public.

It's good to see these losers put on blast, keep on making it clear we know they are up to some bullshit and that they need to stop it!
FunctionallyLiterate@lemmy.ca · 14 pts · 314d
Conservative bullies believe they'll almost always win in the end if they just keep at it and force their way through to their end goal. For most business & personal goals where they have significant control over most variables, this unfortunately tends to work out well for them. So they believe they can apply it to everything.
Social & societal issues are areas where they have significantly less direct control (unless you have control over most everything that society is exposed to from practically the day they're born), which is why they rely upon lies and manipulation so much. The complexity of managing things you have less direct control over makes being successful at it much more unpredictable, however.
Since bullying their way through is their instinctive modus operandi, they'll still try to do it with these issues no matter what feedback they get. So while it may feel satisfying to put them on the spot, they're unlikely to take the feedback seriously - even from their own base.
It's blatant arrogance that has been the hallmark of the MAGA world, and which ultimately will be their undoing. Unfortunately, we still have to sit through the process even though it's so easy to see where it's going. Kinda like watching a show with your kids that's predictable AF, but that they're loving because they think they've never seen anything like it before even though the basic storyline has been done a million times in their other shows.
Jhex@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 314d
that works on regular people like you or me because we have morals, empathy, some form of consciousness... Johnson and the rest of the circus are just complete sociopaths... he couldn't care about this lady or her kids, to him they are as important as a discarded toe nail
LostWanderer@fedia.io · 3 pts · 314d
It's about exerting political pressure, which has been shown to work with these clowns, as Trump and crew have backed down multiple times due to the people making their displeasure known. He likely doesn't directly care about the lady or kids, however, he does care about how he is seen directly after this interview. As it would harm the fulfillment of his self-interest; public perception matters, and that is why the Alt-Right always desperately rehab their image after the times Republicans held Political offices and unilaterally failed the USA.
Jhex@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 314d
no my dude, they are way past that... they used to care because they needed to win further elections but they know they can't anymore which is why they are militarizing every city with a demographic sizeable enough to threaten them
trumps own appro…al rating is is the toilet and he has not changed course internally one bit...he is still buckling internationally because he can't strong arm every other country
you guys are not getting out of this by voting or debating
LostWanderer@fedia.io · 3 pts · 314d
At the end of the day, I consider political pressure to be resistance. If it does get rough in the USA, then our resistance will have to take the form necessary to make change happen. While Trump is not going to change internally, it's about getting the reasonable and weaker around him to cave. As Trump is just an old white dude, there's not much he can actually do once people are sufficiently motivated to act.
Nonviolent protests and resistance have a track record of working and bringing about change. That is the path which I am seeking at the moment. Given we're a big nation, the only tools that realistically work in this case is to make people comply in advance, kowtow due to the bluster and incompetence Trump is spewing. Americans have a distinct numbers advantage, he's just hoping that we stop pushing back and simply accept the bullshit he is attempting.
mysticpickle@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 314d
I agree with the sentiment but can we stop using words like "put on blast", "slammed", "claps back"? Thank you.

Even if the bill is stuck in the senate and you can't force passage, you start making calls to the local contacts to get this family some damn support so the mother doesn't end up hospitalized from caregiver stress. Sadly, if she's from a solid GOP district, those support programs are probably FUBAR and you'll have to beg the religious orgs.
FunctionallyLiterate@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 314d
I'm sure they only do that when they think they can use it to market themselves later. Given the number of complaints he seems to have received, they may just avoid the whole thing for fear of drawing more attention to all the ways they're failing their base.
