OP, I’ve been trying to fiddle around with doing slots on a scroll saw for something similar to this. Any chance your dad has a pic of the parts taken apart so I can get an idea of how they did it?
I was scrolling and the image was only half shown, cut off through center of the ornament. I legit though it was a rocket launch post. Where's my glasses?
It's about 20 cm at the longest point. It goes together fairly easily, the biggest first and moving to the smallest. Much of it was friction fit but my dad's really precise so it went well.

He got them out a scroll saw magazine. Photocopies the design and pasted the copies on the wood. I'll ask him which magazine.
