BVWSC smushes of Fanzine Saponifications - Carrivagio went in the mailbox a couple of days ago... only a week to get to people's houses. My apologies! We will play it by ear for next Wednesday, the 19th.
I can only assume it's because Luxury came first, so changing the name of that base would confuse people? Although before Premium came out, I don't know if his base had a name.
Thanks! I think Luxury is a fine base but I never thought it was top tier. Since I can find a way to make most soaps work, I wasn't too concerned. Apparently, Chris was. I admit, I like the Premium base much better.
Brush: Rad Dinosaur Creations "Nebulagance" - TurnNShave Quartermoon 26mm Synthetic
Razor: Ever-Ready Streamline
Blade: Accuforge GEM Microcoat (6)
Lather: Woolly Wash Soapery - Outback - Soap
Post Shave: Zingari Man - The Master - Recovery Splash
Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
Fragrance: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber - EdP
I'm really starting to get along with this razor. Still not sure I like it enough over my other GEMs to seek one out for myself, but I've definitely learned how to get a great shave out of it.
I think to spend the money on a Streamline you have to want it for reasons other than "it shaves". I don't think any GEM razor is worth whatever these cost ($150? $200?) for the shave alone.
Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company – Seaforth! Black Watch
The rhubarb, musk, and pear notes in Koké are a very unusual combination that I haven't seen used that way anywhere else, and they always put me in a good mood. It evokes the smell of very ripe fruit, just before they turn sickly sweet. Delicious, but flirting with cloying disaster, if that makes sense. Also, I just love the artwork of the Koké line.
The plum + citrus in Black watch goes a little bit in that direction, but it's nowhere near the cloying line, and a much more centred, stable fragrance.
The little Puma sparks joy, for no apparent reason.
I agree on the artwork. Very nice. I think I have a sample of Koké around here somewhere. The combination of rhubarb, musk and pear definitely leads me to wonder, "what drugs were done that night!". Though, it could be genius like Blugère.
Yeah, it may have become mine too. I like them all, but there's a subtle nature on this one. I get different things on different days and this one, as mentioned, is the most elegant, imo.
I actually read about this but totally forgot about it 🤦🏻♂️
Zulip kinda looks like Discord yet seems to focus more on businesses communication/teams. Really interesting.
They're an open source Slack competitor. Some things are paywalled even for self-hosted instances. It looks like SSO is one of those things, but that's no big deal. Mobile notifications are also paywalled but we got approved for a Community plan so that restriction is lifted.
I tried to make it as similar to the organization of the wetshaving Discord server. It's much less bloated than Discord, but as usual for projects like this feature parity isn't quite there.
There's more work I can do to bring it up to snuff, too. ShavingInCT has made lots of fun bot type stuff on Discord, like a soap scent guessing game, etc. So far I've only managed to install pre-built bots, like a bot that tells dad jokes on command.
Sounds interesting, I had to look up what SSO meant but I also think it's not that big of a deal (I use ProtonPass for AutoFill + keeping track of my logins).
I guess almost everything is less bloated than Discord. I only still have that app for keeping in touch with former classmates, I seriously hate that UI.
If there's a mobile app or PWA functionality, I might try out Zulip. There might be some overlap between the times where I am awake with some american "normal" time zones 🤔
From the Chypre (meaning Cyprus) accord family of scents, it stays true to its name with top notes of lime, bergamot, melon, lemon, violet, and caraway. Its heart is made up of herbal notes, pine, ginger, jasmine, pepper, cyclamen, and nutmeg flower, and base notes of ambergris, musk, sandalwood, oakmoss, and cedar. Inspired by Creed Erolfa.
I think all the "... Man" scents from Stirling are Creed dupes.
I like Mediterranean Man but it's not on my favorites list. Haverford, Executive Man, Ramblin' Man, Varen, and I Rich Moose are. :)
My understanding is that Mediterranean Man is a Creed Erolfa dupe. I need to get a decant of Erolfa as I like Mediterranean Man quite a bit. I often get the bath soap.

Love it. 322 is dank and wonderful, and the Premium base is pure luxury (shouldn't the Luxury base be named something else?).
gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social · 4 pts · 300d
I agree with you about the Luxury base. I have a couple of soaps in that base and have never understood the “luxury” moniker.
walden@wetshav.ing · 3 pts · 300d
Maybe I'll ask Chris in the Discord chat.

That's what I think too. I assume that he's locked into it for marketing reasons.

Damn, I didn't realize they were so expensive!
Definitely not worth it to me. Like I said in an earlier shave, there's enough overlap with the Flying Wing/Clog-Pruf in my mind.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
Roman Spice is such an elegant scent. The aquatic component stood out for me today, but it doesn't always. This one's very clever by Shawn Maher.
