On .ml, dessalines (head .ml admin, main Lemmy dev) considers it "bigotry" (.ml rule 1) to have a discussion on the negatives of Russia and will site ban you for it

I heard piefed is something to check out.

I'm growing weary of this kremlin puppet.

Edit: who doesn't like to hear the main dev is a crappy tankie?

tal@lemmy.today · 8 pts · 293d (1 reply)

I tried it (olio.cafe). It's usable now, but not as mature as Lemmy yet, and client software support is more limited.

Valmond@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 293d

Summit, Voyager and "Mlem" (don't know what it is) was recommended for piefed browsing by Blaze, and the first two are solid softs IMO.

mudkip@lemdro.id · 4 pts · 291d

The threadiverse is vast. But lemmy is still the main place to grab your daily content.

ms_lane@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 267d (1 reply)

Is there a piefed instance with old.reddit like interface?

I'm on .world because of old.lemmy.world

Valmond@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 267d

I don't know, maybe post the question at one of the "ask lemmy" communities.

sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 293d (11 replies)

The only place I hear about him is here, so why not leave this community and avoid ml communities?

scintilla@crust.piefed.social · 7 pts · 292d (6 replies)

Because the admins of .ml are the devs behind Lemmy. (At least some of them including the one mentioned here.)

sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works · -2 pts · 292d (5 replies)

OK, but what does that have to do with using Lemmy? Are you worries they're going to taint the code or something?

hatorade@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 292d (4 replies)

They want to use Lemmy but not support the people that make Lemmy, but also don't use Piefed.

If they hate him, stop using his stuff for free. No one is making them use it, Tankies can't force you to run the code or click the URL.

scintilla@crust.piefed.social · 3 pts · 292d (1 reply)

I... Am on piefed though?

hatorade@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 292d

You're in the minority of the people here. I commend you for sticking to your ideas.

Edit; if you're downvoting me from Lemmy, you're exactly who I'm talking about. You want to hate people calling out things and then want those who do to be removed.

sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 292d (1 reply)

Obviously do what you want.

My point is I just don't see how using Lemmy supports the person making it. I guess it kind of makes the platform more popular, but it's not like there are any ads or anything here, so the actual benefit they get from each user is incredibly small. Just don't donate to the devs and instead donate to whatever instance you use.

hatorade@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 292d

Me neither, it doesn't support them at all. Not using it supports them as much as using it. If anything, using it increases their work load to figure out bugs and issues.

Valmond@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 292d (3 replies)

I'm not the "sticking my head in the sand" type of person, and it's the main Lemmy dev.

There are other platforms that use the same (not tankie fueled) underlying protocol. Lemmy isn't something special per se.

Now, why on earth are you defending that type? I mean even slightly?

sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 292d (1 reply)

In what way did I defend them? I'm merely saying that if you don't like lemmy.ml, don't use communities hosted there. I largely avoid their communities and my enjoyment of Lemmy went way up.

My point is there's a lot of good here, so if you don't like the bad, don't join the bad.

Valmond@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 292d

True, but the main dev being a tankie still itches me more and more, so hopefully piefed will solve that, because as you say, there is lots of good here.

hatorade@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 292d

He wasn't defending, he was asking a question.

Downvoting me doesn't change that he asked a question without defending them. Mindless zealots don't want people to question narratives.

Classic ml activities, always good for a chuckle

JokeDeity@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 293d (2 replies)

Is it even possible to start a social networking site without being a terrible person?

thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works · 18 pts · 293d

MySpace Tom? Literally the only one I can think of…

null@piefed.nullspace.lol · 4 pts · 293d

PieFed head dev is a great guy, as far as I can tell.

SmokeyDope@piefed.social · 4 pts · 290d

Well, after enough of these post I finally had enough. I don't want to be associated with all this or these kinds of people. PieFed it is!

So wait.. People are thinking of boycotting the main Lemmy dev? How is that gonna work 🤣

cm0002@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 291d

It's pretty easy, don't give them money, block the .ml instance
