Linus Torvalds doesn’t usually seek the spotlight, so it was a pleasant surprise to see him appear a few days ago as a guest on another well-known Linus’s show—Canadian YouTube star Linus Sebastian from the Linus Tech Tips (LTT) channel.
Depending on who you ask, the two have very different kinds of fame. One is the creator of the operating system that reshaped modern computing. The other has more than 16 million followers, and it’s hard to find a tech enthusiast who hasn’t seen his videos. But as Torvalds joked at the start of the video, when signing a book about himself, “To fake Linus from the real one.”
The premise of the video—building the “perfect” Linux PC, as the title “Building the PERFECT Linux PC with Linus Torvalds” suggests—is mostly just a vehicle for the conversation. The focus isn’t really on assembling the machine but on the dialogue between the two and Torvalds’ answers to questions that many Linux users have long been curious about.

I remember him posting on mastodon once about getting snowed in in canada but maybe I imagined it.

I gave up on LTT after he attacked Gamers Nexus years ago. But his mockery of Musk in this video might get me to resub.

I always felt like that Steve just has a massive hate boner for Linus after the first call out video which seemed like a really small reason to go stirring up drama to begin with. Linus made changes then Steve went after Linus again for not working with Honey anymore just because LTT found out that Honey were slimy shitheads? I unsubbed from GN just for that. Steve was better off sticking to hardware and software, and their manufacturers and devs, not stirring up internet/YouTube drama.

Have you seen Louis Rossman's video about the whole drama? After that and the other previous controversies I just cannot trust LTT at all, specially after watching the video of Alex in his new channel (original title was like "Why I left LTT") where he basically acknowledges they have shitty greedy policies (although he still sucks Linuses cock in the vid) and LMG is (surprise) just a corporate corpo doing corpo things.

Agreed. We need to keep in mind that he's only doing it for the money and chasing the clout of more successful youtubers isn't beneath him.

I don't get LTT's position on linux. they did a "try it out" and fucked up a few things and hated on it in the early 20s, and now he's freaking out and fanboying torvalds. Where's the turning point?

I also didn't get the fanboying... I'm pretty sure their IT guy said at some point that "fake" Linus suggested windows server for their internal servers/nas. So, all the fanboying seemed a bit strange.
He did have a lot of people that liked Linux around, and invested in hexos, so maybe he changed in the last few years...

It's not crazy to think that if you're a IT tech enthusiast and met the cool version of Bill Gates that actually made an OS that is more performant than the home computer standard OS.
