Thanks for taking the time to write all this out! I haven't been exposed to most of it but one of my non binary friends told me that it took forever and was a complicated mess to get a work email without their dead name (they go by their last name now, so ended up getting initials where the first name would go as a stopgap). I def. still saw their deadname pop up from place to place. And the high up supervisor, god bless him, tried and tried to get their name and pronouns right but he'd sometimes slip up if we was thinking hard about something else. But to his credit he fully committed to learning pronouns and names for everyone and really led by example.

A problem i had with your post (which this comment addresses) is that things like voice recognition and image recognition which didn't used to use generative ai now often do use them on the back end.

So "AI" has become a synonym for the type of AI we don't like, and machine learning "ML" for the limited tasks which we do like classical AI to do, like optical character recognition (OCR).

Dude i just learned from the YT comments that this song inspired MJ to write the bass line for Billie Jean!

If i had to guess, I'd say that Phoenix learned singing from them too! The delivery reminds me of Lizstomania and some of their other hits.

I thought so too at first, but it also introduces a 2nd level of strategy: you are guessing whether or not the other people are likely to use a Reverse before you can go out, and if yes, you're making plays with that in mind -- planning to give a less optimal hand to the person on your left, balanced against the chance that you might be able to win with your current hand.

This seems to be the crux of the article:

Okay, I thought about it for six seconds. Zuckerberg believes that human prosperity will result from decentralized superintelligence, an outcome that requires OpenAI and Anthropic to implode. Do you know who stands to benefit in that scenario? Meta and Mark Zuckerberg.

Followed by examples of the myriad ways that Facebook and Meta have hurt people and abused their position.

The thing that helps more than anything else, for me at least, is to spend a lot of time in a community where everyone is invested in getting pronouns right -- because it can be hard if you're doing it all on your own, against the current, so to speak.

Luckily for me my workplace has gradually become such a place, where we used to never volunteer our preferred genders, to now where the norm is to introduce yourself with your name and pronouns if you're comfortable, put them on name-tags, and we all try to help each other remember people's pronouns.

I've also played with this variation before.

My FAVORITE house rule was that when "reverse" was played by anyone, EVERYONE had to give their hands to the person on their left.

I literally only encountered this rule at one person's house, but it really made the game less predictable and more fun.
