In one of the proto-germanic languages, we have no idea what their word for "bear" was, even tho they lived side by side the humans and had constant run-ins...

Because they believed saying the word or writing/drawing the rune would summon it, straight up Voldermorted them.

In what few references there have been found, it's just "big brother" which is pretty close to "absolute unit".

Any idea which bear this is? I know some parks keep track of their bear populations, like Katmai National Park with Fat Bear Week. This one does resemble 2023's winner 128-Grazer

The photo is by nature photographer Pier van den Bemd, from his Instagram. He says it's in Norway, and that he's "by far the heaviest polar bear" he'd ever seen.
