I really love that Bo Burnham song about country songs, ever since I heard that it's all I can hear when listening to country now. So many of the popular country songs follow that format almost exactly, it's insane...

My favorite Country song is "God Gives Head in Heaven " by the Swedish death metal band Aeon.

thank you for that

My pleasure. My favourite story about sharing this is a guy that I worked with who listened to country and liked to play jokes on his S/O. His eyes lit up and he had a look of pure joy on his face when he heard the song. And I quote "She's not going to know what is going on when she hears this!".

There's like 3-4 songs getting beat to death on the radio right now where the dude is getting cucked. It's weird.

How else are they gonna make the rural folk be okay with their nation getting fucked?

Legit curious for an example, that is hilarious.

If more women would kill their husbands they'd stop trying to outlaw divorce.

MotoAsh@piefed.social · 10 pts · 237d (2 replies)

You might have it backwards. Spousal homicide was far more common when divorce wasn't an option.

Although I'm all for shitty people meeting an end.

thoughtfuldragon@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 237d (1 reply)

That's the point I'm trying to make.

I don't think conservatives are smart enough to understand consequences. Especially consequences that take more than one step to find.

The gym was playing some country last time I went, and the song was some guy saying: I did her wrong, and now she's leaving me. The guy sounded genuinely regretful and acknowledged he was to blame. I don't hear that in a lot of other genres.

Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 237d (1 reply)

So you can take his truck? I'll never understand this genre.

lightnsfw@reddthat.com · 9 pts · 237d

Usually it's to stop him being an abusive POS.

meanwhile gothic/outlaw country is out here like "I'm going to kill a cop and then go fishing but then catch Satan himself and then everyone dies"

And Charlie Crockett and Sturgil Simpson if it has to be new old-school sounding stuff.

Or if old is fine too:

Ernest Tubb, Ferlin Husky, Faron Young, Hank Snow, Hank Sr., Lefty Frizzell, Marty Robbins, George Jones, Red Foley, Kitty Wells, Porter Wagoner, Patsy Cline, Webb Pierce, Charlie Pride, Gene Watson, The Dillards (bluegrass), Jack Guthrie, Wanda Jackson (rockabilly-y), Buck Owens, Tex Williams, Dick Curless, Peter Rowan, Vince Gill, Stanford Clark, Slim Whitman, and many, many more! (This list is subject to grow with edits as I remember more of the best troubadors of yore.)

Also find WFMU radio's Honky Tonk Radio Girl hosted by Becky wherever podcasts are sold, here's the RSS link (so says antennapod.) Becky knows her shit, constant bangers.

I've had this in my head for days now, and I alternate between hating it and loving it:
