I mean the price is high, but it is a unique device with controls you won't find on other devices. Additionally, you're not pirating the games this way (I know that's not a plus for everyone). It's obviously playing on peoples nostalgia, but I don't think it's that big of a ripoff.
The controls are what makes it a good purchase imo. Old arcade games often had unique controls like dials, or track balls that DO NOT translate well to a keyboard mouse or controller.
Playing OG Missile Command with an actual scroll ball is such a fun time. This hand held looks to give a bit of that back with their extra controls, so I am very interested.
Regardless of the game size and quality, HOW it's played is what's been missing from most arcade ports over the last few decades. Seems like they actually put some thought into this design imo! 😁
Yeah, I've had the chance to play mission command and asteroid on an original arcade cabinet, its definitely a different experience and I'm sure for some worth this price.
Looks like an arm device: you can buy a good smartphone with better specs on that price. Actual gamers (people actively looking for a gaming device) are no the real market target: this is aimed more towards people looking for memorabilia or action figures from their favorite brand/IP.
The draw for me is actually the physical controls you don't find on other devices.
Integrated paddle, trak-ball and keypad.
Still on the fence due to other compromises they made in the hardware. I'd also really love if I could install other emulators such as something for Amiga & C64.

Seems like an absolute ripoff.

That thing is completely locked. You cannot add other games, than the ones already on the console.
Might be interesting, if it can be hacked and flashed with a Linux and some emulators.

There's already several well-made, cheap handheld emulators running Linux (e.g. Anbernic)

Not one that I'm aware of with that assortment of controls, unfortunately.

Yeah, I think people are overlooking that it's more like a portal able arcade cabinet than a retro handheld.

Why choose this over a handheld emulator that costs 1/4th of the price and can emulate any system from the NES to the PS1/PSP?

The other handheld emulators are similarly priced. - https://www.goretroid.com/products/retroid-pocket-5-handheld
Although it isn't mentioned on the box, the Gamestation Go is hiding some bonus features, including emulation of systems like the SNES, Neo Geo Pocket, Dreamcast and N64. Loading a correctly formatted MicroSD card with the supported ROMs allows you to access these "hidden" emulators. While performance is patchy (Dreamcast games lack sound, while N64 emulation is buggy with frequent audio skipping), it's a nice little bonus to have; NGPC games run pretty flawlessly.
I still can't find tech specs on it, like processor, ram, ect.

My first thought was “just buy it from miyoo”
My second thought was “hope nobody falls for this”
My third thought was “wow it’s even worse than I thought” (I read about the product)

I've spent more money on retro gaming handhelds and gotten less for it. Looks pretty good.
