How about we normalize being flamboyant and colorful for straight adult cisgender men instead of re-enforcing the idea that any deviation from being a boring frumpy dump of an old man means they must be some type of queer. Isn't this just re-enforcing outdated gender norms?

Thank you. There can be overlap due to repression but the immediate label does reinforce stereotypes.

idk, i read this as a joke about how being emo isn't accepted once you're past a certain age, and how that age is higher for women. don't get me wrong i do think straight cis men should be allowed to be flamboyant and colourful, but i don't think the meme is against that

Funky_Beak@lemmy.sdf.org · 12 pts · 252d

My hot take was in the early 00's the emo movement was the start for alot of ppl questioning their gender identity.

nanoswarm9k@lemmus.org · 0 pts · 250d

Amazing mental gymnastics to get a read of 'boy become a woman' that isn't trans.

I'm also pulling for depolicing gender for everyone, but also a silly laugh about which subcultures have eggs that come out faster.

I love you emo boys that became women. I love you emo boys that became goth men. I love you faahion cryptid enbies.

Hell yeah!

I am not flamboyant myself. Along with being a strongly introverted AuDHD computer nerd, I am a straight adult cisgender man with a long beard and literally wearing a red & green flannel shirt right now. I've been trying to wear natural fibers lately and it's 100% cotton coziness.

The frumpy dumpy path so many in my demo seem to assume is their destiny can fuck alllll the way off. We need people to share their interests and be flamboyant if that's what's in their heart!

God forbid we allow a spark of joy in our hearts to reach out and improve the existence of another human, right? Especially when we could have spent more time being good worker bees and consumers of product and content, so that a few sociopaths could watch a number go up and wait for the contentment that will never come.

Goth men exist. Or are you calling Peter Steele a woman?

DmMacniel@feddit.org · 17 pts · 253d (2 replies)

Macchi_the_Slime@piefed.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 253d (1 reply)

For a few seconds there I think you could argue he was the most emo literally anyone could be.

Elliott Smith- Was I a joke to you?

JayDee@lemmy.sdf.org · 16 pts · 253d (6 replies)

Damn, just looked it up and he died during that film's shooting. That sucks, he fuckin nailed that role.

Odo@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 253d

I had no idea people watched The Crow without knowing that. His death was such a huge part of the discussion around that movie back in 1994. I just assumed that context would always follow it, no matter how long it's been.

No he didn't. Both of their deaths forced the movies they were working on to be rewritten, but Bruce died of a pre-existing condition combined with painkillers, while Brandon got shot.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 252d (2 replies)

he didn't die in an on-set accident he died in a specific type of on-set accident is not a great argument

TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 252d (1 reply)

Bruce didn't die on set, but when he was supposed to go to party. He was working on a film, but it was his day off. Realistically, what happened to him could happen to anyone, while not many people die while faking getting killed.
