Lets speculate about the steam controllers price

A few Werks ago, I sold my Xbox one and with that my only working controller for my PC. Since then, i have been playing hollowknight and Jedi fallen order on my old Xbox 360 controller with its unlikeable d-pad, even after multiple mods to it.

And with the steam controller coming, im eagerly awaiting the steam controller

My guess is about 100-150€, since the price of a General controller with back buttons and no Hall effect Joysticks or touchpads is already about 100€, so this + all the cool shit steam is doing will be more.

I'm fairly sure that the new controller uses TMR instead of Hall Effect joysticks.

My guess is 80 USD.

I bought a 8 bitdo ult 2 and a 2 c both are great. My only problem is that I wished that the USB stick support multiple controls like the 8 controllers thr Xbox wireless adapter.

I was just about to pay for my controller when I noticed that Gabe Newell was bout 500 feet tall and from the palaeolithic era.

Eh, I'm thinking more like $6, maybe $7.

1 dollar, Bob.

I'm thinking the right price is about $80, and I'd be very happy if the price is lower than that.

I'd consider at top $100. One should come with the Steam Machine right? It can't be too expensive to manufacture if it's coming with what should be a competitively priced PC

Yes, but you can use any input device with steam, unlike the consoles where you need a controller thats partnered with the brand.

Using my PS5 controllers on the Steam Deck is great when playing multiplayer locally.

That seems a bit high high to me; if they want to move them in significant quantities, I'd think they'd need to try to land in the $80 USD range, give or take a hair.

They have quite a few other controller options out there that they are competing against, and even though it's awesome, they definitely could potentially price people off of it.

the price of a General controller with back buttons and no Hall effect Joysticks or touchpads is already about 100€

That seems expensive, you can get hall effect or even TMR sticks and back buttons for well below that. That said, I do think the Steam Controller will be more expensive than that. 80-100€ is my guess.

The 8Bit-Do Ultimate 2 with TMR-Sticks and Backbuttons was just over 55€ before christmas. Those features don't necessarily mean a steep pricetag.

Lemmchen@feddit.org · 3 pts · 230d

If it's more than 60€ (incl. VAT) then I'm not going to buy one. I already have more controllers than I need (including the original Steam Controller) so I see it more as a collector's item.

$100

Would you buy these if you have a steam deck? If so, why

Fecundpossum@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 230d

Yes, because I also have a desktop PC, not to mention a dock for my Steam deck. Sure, I could keep using my old Xbox controller on the PC, but the Steam controller creates perfect continuity between my deck, pc, and deck docked.

Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz · 7 pts · 230d

I sometimes play with my Deck docked, but a lot of my games aren't playable without the extra buttons/track pads/gyro of the steam deck.

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 230d

If you have more than one computer or like to play with it docked.

inlandempire@jlai.lu · 3 pts · 230d

I would buy them if the Steam Deck can't be a controller for the Steam Machine (which I'm cautiously considering), like the Wii U

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 230d

My Steam Deck has neither a large screen nor surround sound, nor is it a standalone controller

AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 229d

If a steam controller 2 or whatever is in the ballpark of around $100USD, I'd be down to either save for one or hope Valve does something similar to what they did with the steam deck and sell refurbished controllers at a slightly lower price.
