Brush: AP Shave Co. Black & Clear handle w/ 30 mm Tuxedo Fan knot
Razor: Wilkinson Hydro cartridge razor
Blade: Wilkinson Hydro 3
Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber
Post Shave: OAM - Oli del Benessere Sensitive Skin toner
Fragrance: Tom Ford - Tuscan Leather EdP
almost forgot to post: single pass head shave, grabbed the cartridge because I was running late for my final late shift at the old place. No irritation whatsoever!
The last shave of 2025. I planned something nice for it, but life had other plans. Had to fall back on GTB, my personal "Ol' Reliable". The cartridge razor wasn't the worst thing ever, but it's a safe and - unfortunately - soulless choice.
What a year. I finished my retraining, got my nursing degree, found a new job just this month... it was really stressful, but oh so worth it. Wetshaving wise, I transitioned from Lemmy to PieFed, post with the WSDB SOTD generator, got a new safety razor and some nice new soaps after my degree and was able to explore quite a few interesting soaps thanks to Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club. Thanks for being here and having me around, folks! I wish every single one of you & your families a smooth transition into the new year. In Germany, it's tradition to say "Guten Rutsch!" meaning as much as "Have a nice slide into the new year". So, have a nice & slick slide and a successful start into 2026, folks. 🍀🥳
Today's satchel had a really nice Gillette Slim Adjustable (M2/1967) razor and a sample of Summer Break Soaps Remote Learning.
Off the puck, throughout the lather, and throughout the shave, Doritos. Nacho Cheese Doritos, which is spicy, just not in the right way. I grabbed the Bond aftershave and balm and HoM Tobacconist thinking they would knock down the scent. I was wrong. They combined into a different kind of "midnight stag" bouquet. I've received several side-eyes from my family so far.
I contemplated stopping on pass 2 but SBS's Doug base is really nice (odd name for a base, but better than something like ultramagic 3.1.2i, IMHO).
I really want to thank u/cowzilla3 for this PIF. This has been a wild and fun ride. He's tremendously generous. I've enjoyed following along on his journey: The Great Spice Off.
So a combination of nacho chips, cigarettes and whisky. Sounds like one of my old Saturday nights 😆
A wonderful New Year to you too! Really enjoyed those write-ups 👍
Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
Razor: Koraat 15/16 Full Hollow - Sub Exclusive 'Moarteen' (3)
Lather: Noble Otter - Logbook - Soap
Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - I, Rich Moose - Aftershave
Post Shave: Nivea - Sensitive - Balm
Straight razor shave #98. It would have been neat to hit 100 today, but that's ok!
I increased the angle today since I feel a little bit comfortable with this razor/edge with the goal of an even closer shave. It seemed to work, but I'm still a little weary of the potential for irritation. Overall I would rate this shave better than yesterdays which is saying a lot! Definitely amongst the best straight razor shaves I've had.
I taught myself to use a straight razor around 2010 and shaved that way for several months, but I wasn't wetshaving. I glommed onto wetshaving in 2021 and joined the sub in 2022. After Lather Games '22, I decided to go down the rabbit hole again. Both VisceralWatch and @djundjila were on their way at that time, so I joined in.
Wetshaving makes all the difference. This is the way.

Really nice scent combination. Cypress and Varen go together especially well.
I hope you all have a safe and fun New Year's Eve! We'll be staying in and watching a movie with our cats.

I enjoy starting the new year without a hangover. That's my plan for New Year's Eve as well - minus the cats.

Ah yes. Tinkering with technique. At over 1000 straight razor shaves since July 2022, I'm still tinkering. Enjoy your New Year's Eve!
