I got this beauty yesterday. I was randomly asking about how throat lozenges work.

I really can't seem to see the connection between me being into video games/tech, and me potentially wanting to make my own throat lozenges.

Hi, we've been trying to reach you regarding your vehicle's extended warranty...

"Would you like me to provide links to some lozenge DIY kit Amazon pages so that you can compare prices?"

overkrill@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 230d

despite being completely unhelpful, this answer is oddly more wholesome than the old "cut down count rings"

then again all the trees being starved of water by the data center may disagree

If you take a core sample of a human, you can determine exactly when the person died.

The more you know...

In Africa, a tree's age is determined by how long ago it was planted.

Osvaldo12, is that you?

BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 230d

You can tell by the way it is.

You can tell that it's an Aspen tree because of the way it is

Where_art_thou@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 230d

1 tree's worth of water was used to give you that answer

Saves cutting it down to count the ringsĀ

About right for an AI answer, garbage in garbage out

doomkernel@sopuli.xyz · 3 pts · 230d (1 reply)

Its not wrong though

tomiant@piefed.social · 2 pts · 230d

It is wrong in that it does not perform the task expected of the user. The user wants to know how to determine the age of a tree, if the user already knew the age of the tree they wouldn't be asking.

If it answered that 1+1=2 it also would not be wrong, but it would still be a useless answer, which is wrong in that it is not what the user asked for.

::: spoiler Transcription: A screenshot of a Google search for "how to find out how old is a tree". The response is AI stating:

If you know when the tree was planted, you can easily and accurately determine its age.
