I don't understand how any US law applies in Venezuela at all

PugJesus@piefed.social · 59 pts · 225d

It doesn't, which is one of many, many reasons why this whole fucking affair is absurd.

Boppel@feddit.org · 19 pts · 225d

thats the nice part it doesn't. the main criminal is the usa right now.

That's pretty funny. Just ridiculous charges

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 224d

What if he aimed that gun at the US? Not so funny now, is it?

The whole xheet is an abomination. Even Orwell's 1984 only had Two Minutes Hate daily, this admin is all in.

One would imagine it's the "use against the US" that has got her goat up. Not simply possession of a gun. Otherwise 90% of the US would be behind bars.

PugJesus@piefed.social · 21 pts · 225d (6 replies)

Possession of a machinegun is actually strictly regulated in the US. It's a big hassle to get any fully automatic weapon. Note that one of the two underlined charges is just possession of a machinegun or destructive device.

What kind of machine gun is that? How could that damage the US from Venezuela... I doubt he could shoot Florida from Caracas with that.

edible_funk@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 224d

It really isn't that big of a hassle, it just costs money and time.

That's not what school children in the US are taught when they practice active shooter drills.

That’s not what school children in the US are taught when they practice active shooter drills.

Those shooter drills are practiced in anticipation of a shooter with a semiautomatic.

The distinction may seem minor, but it's a major division in firearms law in the US.

There hasn't been a single school shooting with a automatic gun
