...the fuck happened to the world. Why do I perceive old people as less competent than young ones. It should be the other way around, what the hell managed to switch my perception so much.
Back in the day, you got one big change in tech every few years. You still had farms and people using horses in New York City as late as 1960*
Even if an older person embraced tech in 2000 AD they've seen a dozen newer versions come up. The first iPhone was 2007; we're up to the 16 now. Windows 10 is going out.
Unless the older person is willing to work to keep up, they will be left behind.
Put it this way. Take the average person from 1890 and put them in 1990. Once they learn to drive a car and deal with electric lights, they'll fit right in. Someone from 2000 dropped in 2026 would have a much tougher time of it.
*yes, I know there are carriage horses in Central Park. I was talking about people using horses for mundane businesses like junk collection.
I believe before those we just used and remembered disgusting images like tubgirl.
Well or ASCII art of trolls with fishes.
I guess there just wasn't enough bandwidth to send images around and not many platforms supporting images or hosting them. Traffic and bandwidth where expensive
Goatse and LemonParty also had very short URL links to their images, so you could sneak in the <img src= bit into a comment field that only allowed like, fifty characters, and still have some room for a bit of text too.

My 202026 resolution is to get meme famous so people can feel hella old in 10 years when I will surely look like a withered ghost of my former self.

Decent goal. Smart of you to give yourself 200,000 years to achieve it too.

Old people seem less competent because they are.
