That gap allows airflow and prevents moisture from being trapped.

I'd no do anything about the gap.

I really need to do something like that too. Right now it's just throw stuff on the chair.

I really like 3M Command strips hooks. Adhesive and easily removed. Read the instructions! They are great.

I also have several “over the door” style hooks from Ikea. Easy and effective
