I usually read for pleasure. I prefer fiction and read some nonfiction.

  • iPad, Libby app, in a keyboard case, on pillows on my lap on the couch. Fiction in the morning with coffee.
  • I sometimes highlight or save quotes but don’t often take notes. I will discuss with my partner or friends if it comes up.
  • Digestion happens naturally I guess!
  • The Gutenberg Parenthesis was a good read and dense. I read it over a few weeks while going to sleep on my phone.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is calling on his fellow AI leaders to stop fear-mongering about AI—and he’s asking policymakers to stop feeding into it, too.

“The doomers spend too much time theorizing about these science fiction outcomes—maybe it makes them sound smart. Leaders ought to be thoughtful about doing this,” Huang said during an episode of Axios’ “Behind the Curtain” video series. “If you want to warn the world about the incredible capabilities of this technology, I think it’s been achieved.”

Although Huang did not call out anyone specifically, Anthropic and OpenAI executives have been among the loudest voices in touting the supposedly terrifying potential of their own advanced models. OpenAI, for example, just claimed responsibility for a first-of-its-kind agentic hack in which an AI agent allegedly broke out of a testing environment and autonomously hacked AI repository Hugging Face. And Anthropic’s Dario Amodei and OpenAI’s Sam Altman recently issued warnings about the alleged perils of Chinese AI models, which are much cheaper.

Huang is crying foul. Although he emphasized during the video that it is the responsibility of AI leaders like himself to ensure that regulators and policy makers “understand the nature of this technology,” he also cautioned against the type of fear that will dissuade people from using it and industries from applying it.

“We want to encourage the American people to use this technology,” he said. “The only way we get left behind is if we don’t apply the technology. Forget who contributes and invented the technology.”

It may seem counter-intuitive for executives to label their own products as dangerous, but in the recent example of the Hugging Face breach, experts suspected OpenAI’s narrative was, in part, clever marketing. Cornell University assistant computer science professor John Thickstun said in a statement to Inc. that “the explicit message of this campaign is that OpenAI’s technology is dangerous, but the message they implicitly want to convey is that their technology is powerful and worthy of large investments, privileged regulatory status, etc.”

Some critics have also argued that that safety positioning could entrench the leadership positions of companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, Axios reported.

“How do we make the technology safe? That’s our responsibility as the technology leaders,” Huang said. “Telling everybody that the AI technology has to be safe, you are just reminding yourself you have to make it safe.”

Axios noted that Huang himself has a good relationship with key Trump administration officials, which has benefitted the company in the past—recently with respect to Chinese exports.
