AI or not, I hate the modern trend of home colors being grey, black, and white. I don't care about the "professional look" or "modern design", its my home not a workplace. First thing i did was paint my house when I got it and even though I don't love every color I chose it gave it a major face lift from the dull grey walls. The yellow I chose for one wall is bathed in sunlight and really makes my wooden toned furniture and green leaved house plants pop out against it.
I personally use a lot of monochrome on any fixed surfaces, e.g. floor, walls, doors, trim, hardware, etc. so that i have flexibility in colorful decorations.
For example, I installed a medium-dark warm gray vinyl plank flooring, white trim, white doors with black hardware, and I stained closet doors from tan to warm dark grayish brown, and then use bright colors everywhere else for decorations and accent walls. This gives me a bit of flexibility in changing colors without having to repaint, or worry about something clashing.
Like you, I can't stand a complete lack of color, but i do use that "modern look" as a base.

Paint the beams and fireplace, short term thinking to destroy something that will now forever need work and updating. I hope you drywalled over the wall panels and didn't just slap paint on them. That grey laminate flooring pisses me off like nothing else in cheap home remodeling. It's embossed with wood grain but what fucking real wood is grey like that? It's the 2020s equivalent of 1970s faux wood paneling.

My uncle used to design and build houses. Normally he didn't work for anyone - he'd take out a loan, buy a piece of land, design a house custom fit to the contours of the land, subcontract some parts, but he did the carpentry with some hired help, and when it was all done, he'd sell it (he was a realtor too) and as far as I know always made a profit, though some did better than others...
One year I went to work for him. But he was doing it differently that time, some wealthy developer had hired him to build his own house. I remember him talking about what a big mistake that was turning out to be, the guy kept changing his mind about what he wanted when we were halfway done with something - for example when he saw the rough openings for the windows, he decided they weren't big enough and he wanted bigger. Problem was, my uncle had already ordered the windows (custom sized of course) and they were already built, just not delivered yet... But the guy had money to burn, so he paid for both sets... Anywho, my uncle had designed the roof to be held up by some hefty beams, and had intended them to be unpainted, so had sourced the high quality (expensive) ones. After we set the beams- most by crane, but one short one was in such an odd position we had to do it by hand- heaviest thing I've ever lifted and I only had one end... a motorcycle engine was light in comparison... anywho, he brought his wife to look at the progress, she took one look at the beams and said "... and we'll paint those lavender..." I could just about hear the steam coming from my uncle's ears.

Yeah, painting the old wood and painting the brick is just too much. My home is pushing 100 and I have big old molding everywhere, but I've seen other houses in my neighborhood where folks have painted the big old molding - white obviously, because that's apparently the only "color" - and to me it just begs to be burnt to the ground.

It's a 90s TV, the chassis is gray plastic. It probably has S-Video so worth keeping. (Reminder that almost all European TVs from 1990-2010 have SCART, which is unwieldy thick but SD RGBA, and are PAL- and NTSC-compatible)

It's not their home, it's for renting out. White reigns supreme because you can use it on floor and ceiling with the same bucket, and it "expands" the space which means you can charge more.
So that wood wall is not wood, it's like 1/8th" veneer. So of all the things, I'm okay with that going. Granted, don't paint it, rip it out, apply new walls where necessary, and then paint those.
That being said, we moved in 1997 to a house with the wood paneling, and as we were ripping it down, there were a million large holes everywhere, so we put it back up and painted it. White.
For me, I am choosing 1, if I am having a wooden floor, I would rather paint the walls. Or keep the walls and re-carpet it.
I would probably re-carpet myself. Something soft so it's a more cozy space, where you want to be relaxing barefoot (no shoes allowed kinda deal).
I would always leave the "brick work" exposed. That being painted is a crime, as it is a center piece of the room. I also don't think I would paint the beams black, I prefer them wooden.
We thought the walls were veneer and we would rip it out and put in a cute wall paper but that depends. For ease we’re would paint it then maybe get s cute wall paper or even blank slate it and do a mural or two for fun :3

We have a 1960's greek house and while we have brought chunks of into the 21st century,(electrical, heating, cooling, solar, automation on self hosted HA etc) we are also leaning into the aesthetic. The house demands boldness and we are at our lady's pleasure
They are both ugly. The only thing worth preserving is the stone wall and the beams. The wood paneling on the walls is most likely just veneer. I’m not really a fan of lacquered wood paneled walls unless they have some eye catching feature. The smoothness makes them look like a floor.
I do agree with you that carpet is awful, but that mustard yellow or olive green carpet combined with the conversation pit just hit me right in the nostalgia.
I would say go with a wood floor (not the landlord-chic-nightmare in the picture) but with the wood panel walls it'd be a bit much on the wood.
I have memories of some kind of hard orange carpet with a strange texture that consisted of regularly spaced knobs of material. It was impossible to get clean with my Mom's weird stick vacuum and I played on the ground a lot and saw all the debris left between the knobs.
The modern obsession with hard flooring (in reality: laminate) is whatever. There is, however, something almost comical about surrounding a central pit with all smooth surfaces, and then choosing a hard, pointy, rectangular table as the centerpiece.
I think this soulless monochrome room could use a splash of red.
I like the height and thickness of the couch back pillows on the right. End of list of positive changes. Replacing the carpet was probably a good move too, but they did it wrong.

I've never been in a house with a conversation pit, almost no Americans have actually seen one. They're a leftover from the 60s and 70s when people were high on coke or "weight loss" pills.
My dad had one years ago - house was built in the mid 60s. Phoenix area. No basement. Concrete slab. So yeah, the slab was poured with that pit in it, under it was just dirt.
Apart from the garish turquoise carpet, I think the original looks timelessly vintage.
Whereas the one on the right looks fashionable, but has almost no character of its own - kind of like those rich people houses you see on YouTube listed for millions, but nobody actually ever seems to buy.

The one in the left definitely needed an update. The carpet is awful, the railing is outdated, the wood paneling is dreary. But the “remodel” (ai?) is not great either. Pergo flooring looks cheap. Solid black & white everything makes it look like a store at the mall. There’s no life to it.
No, I don't think that is why. There have been much more depressing times in the past and those were just as colorful as any other time. I think the thing that has most influenced the color palette of millennials, or rather the lack of, is the rise of the internet and social media. People don't want to stand out and be mocked for being different. Especially in a climate where being different can actually cost you quite a bit. I believe this is especially true of interior decorators and designers who often set the trends for people to use.
There's also something to be said for an extreme backlash to the home makeover shows that were all the rage back in the late aughts. I think a lot of people still have trauma from the "experimental" bullshit that some of those designers did to their "clients" all in the name of chasing ratings.
Millennial here. I just remodeled my kitchen and bathroom. It was a fucking battle to get my wife to agree to wood cabinets instead of bland white or millennial blue. I got her to agree to a deep sea blue tile for one shower wall because almost everything else in the bathroom was white or grey.
Most people don't have originality or any sense of color, so they look online and see these sterile white rooms that photograph well but lack character. They just mimic what they see because it's easier than having actual preferences.
Looks like what my cousin did to my grandparents house before flipping it for double what my mom got from them for it. Guess that's what you get for being nice.

I'm fine with the 2010s era minimalist decor.
But painting over stone and high quality wood panels is crazy. If you want the minimalist look, then this wasn't the house you start with. Fucking Beetlejuice ass joists.

If houses had red flags, that gray flooring is one.
The clear, obvious message I receive every time I see that flooring is that someone went for cheap, cookie-cutter shit over every possible other option. They didn’t care, didn’t think things through, and have certainly hidden problems or improperly installed other parts of their cut-rate flip.

The real crime is using AI to pretend they did something good when they know full well its controversial at best, and they didnt even do it, and then put it out into the world setting off a chain reaction of screenshots and shares until it ends up on my screen wasting my time raising my blood pressure with this bollocks. It's a 90s TV, the chassis is gray plastic. It probably has S-Video so worth keeping. (Reminder that almost all European TVs from 1990-2010 have SCART, which is unwieldy thick but SD RGBA, and are PAL- and NTSC-compatible)

So that wood wall is not wood, it's like 1/8th" veneer. So of all the things, I'm okay with that going. Granted, don't paint it, rip it out, apply new walls where necessary, and then paint those.
That being said, we moved in 1997 to a house with the wood paneling, and as we were ripping it down, there were a million large holes everywhere, so we put it back up and painted it. White.

Veneer is fine to paint usually. Textured veneer looks tacky when painted.
We hide real wood too much in modern interior design; celebrate it because it might become very rare.

For me, I am choosing 1, if I am having a wooden floor, I would rather paint the walls. Or keep the walls and re-carpet it.
I would probably re-carpet myself. Something soft so it's a more cozy space, where you want to be relaxing barefoot (no shoes allowed kinda deal).
I would always leave the "brick work" exposed. That being painted is a crime, as it is a center piece of the room. I also don't think I would paint the beams black, I prefer them wooden.

We thought the walls were veneer and we would rip it out and put in a cute wall paper but that depends. For ease we’re would paint it then maybe get s cute wall paper or even blank slate it and do a mural or two for fun :3
But if it was real wood on wall, it isn’t our personal style. Would reuse the wood elsewhere though like for furniture for the house or flooring. Then do a cute wall paper or mural like previously mentioned

We have a 1960's greek house and while we have brought chunks of into the 21st century,(electrical, heating, cooling, solar, automation on self hosted HA etc) we are also leaning into the aesthetic. The house demands boldness and we are at our lady's pleasure

They are both ugly. The only thing worth preserving is the stone wall and the beams. The wood paneling on the walls is most likely just veneer. I’m not really a fan of lacquered wood paneled walls unless they have some eye catching feature. The smoothness makes them look like a floor.

I do agree with you that carpet is awful, but that mustard yellow or olive green carpet combined with the conversation pit just hit me right in the nostalgia.
I would say go with a wood floor (not the landlord-chic-nightmare in the picture) but with the wood panel walls it'd be a bit much on the wood.

I have memories of some kind of hard orange carpet with a strange texture that consisted of regularly spaced knobs of material. It was impossible to get clean with my Mom's weird stick vacuum and I played on the ground a lot and saw all the debris left between the knobs.

The modern obsession with hard flooring (in reality: laminate) is whatever. There is, however, something almost comical about surrounding a central pit with all smooth surfaces, and then choosing a hard, pointy, rectangular table as the centerpiece.
I think this soulless monochrome room could use a splash of red.

The one in the left definitely needed an update. The carpet is awful, the railing is outdated, the wood paneling is dreary. But the “remodel” (ai?) is not great either. Pergo flooring looks cheap. Solid black & white everything makes it look like a store at the mall. There’s no life to it.

No, I don't think that is why. There have been much more depressing times in the past and those were just as colorful as any other time. I think the thing that has most influenced the color palette of millennials, or rather the lack of, is the rise of the internet and social media. People don't want to stand out and be mocked for being different. Especially in a climate where being different can actually cost you quite a bit. I believe this is especially true of interior decorators and designers who often set the trends for people to use.
There's also something to be said for an extreme backlash to the home makeover shows that were all the rage back in the late aughts. I think a lot of people still have trauma from the "experimental" bullshit that some of those designers did to their "clients" all in the name of chasing ratings.

Millennial here. I just remodeled my kitchen and bathroom. It was a fucking battle to get my wife to agree to wood cabinets instead of bland white or millennial blue. I got her to agree to a deep sea blue tile for one shower wall because almost everything else in the bathroom was white or grey.
Most people don't have originality or any sense of color, so they look online and see these sterile white rooms that photograph well but lack character. They just mimic what they see because it's easier than having actual preferences.
