I use MacOS (I know, I know), but I didn’t realize I could use WINE on Mac. I haven’t had a chance to investigate yet if I can make this work for me, but this was a good suggestion. I have this on my short list of stuff to figure out. Thank you!
There is one single app I need for freelance work that I cannot replace with a non-windows app.
It lives in a virtual machine and is shut down for 99% of its existence.
The machine that runs the VM is the one I use for local LLM and fucking around with docker containers. It’s an insanely powerful machine that’s slightly RAM constrained. I can run what feels like an unlimited amount of containers on it, or that fucking Windows VM. I have to kill every running container on the machine just to run one single Windows app for 10 minutes once or twice a week.
If my freelance work paid more, I’d buy a dedicated windows machine just to do this one fucking task. (And then I’d have to air-gap it, and figure out how to remotely start it somehow, because I don’t trust Windows at all, and don’t want it running all the time.)
Or, I guess… buy access to a windows VM online? Hm. The convenience/time/effort trade off could be worth it at certain price points.
I think I only knew that before I bought because I watched a review over them. I’m on the same page regarding IoT devices on WiFi. Needs must if I have to, but I keep a separate WiFi network for them, with different access rules.
Is that a tiny shark fin on the hood?
This is why you shouldn’t let AI control your car. It saw the appliqué, glitched about what it was doing, and rest was history.

Non-sequitur: I love the SaltLife decals so much. Their font is just so awful that every time I see “Slut Life” on a Jeep Renegade a 12 hour drive from the nearest ocean, I just think of the driver tarting it up every weekend. It makes me giggle.
If houses had red flags, that gray flooring is one.
The clear, obvious message I receive every time I see that flooring is that someone went for cheap, cookie-cutter shit over every possible other option.
They didn’t care, didn’t think things through, and have certainly hidden problems or improperly installed other parts of their cut-rate flip.
While they do use the Matter communication standard, these devices use the Thread protocol.
The Venn diagram/conceptual model of how these interrelate is messy because Matter can run on both Thread or WiFi (depending on the hardware of the device), and Thread is a platform that supports multiple standards.
That’s possibly your detection settings or method (detection criteria, etc). My washer and dryer are separate devices on separate power monitoring plugs. The only time power draw for either goes above 2 watts is when they’re cycled on.
I just told the blueprint to wait 2 minutes before deciding a cycle has started before declaring it’s started, and 5 minutes after it has ended before sending a notification.
But I mean, I’m not here to yuck your yum. If it works for you, it works for you.
I’ve got it working in HomeAssistant, and they’re pretty neat. The knob has a click action, and the remote has a click action, too. Clicks on the remote allow you to select between 3 different ‘channels.’
In HA, you can set each channel so that the click and scroll does something different. (The blueprint I use has click, long press, double, triple, and quad click, as well as scroll wheel actions.)
I’m not that fancy - I’ve got each channel’s click action mapped to on/off toggle, and to brightness, color temp, and a hue scroller.
But as a word of advice: take really, really good measurements multiple times at different times of the day and rely on the largest measurement collected for a given area. Also, only buy one the first time you purchase.
(The latter thing didn’t bite us, but could have. The elbows, of all places, are a touch too small and after about an hour start to become uncomfortable.)
Edit: One last thing! If you’re going for a full body look and planning to actually wear it for a bit, get the crotch zipper, so you don’t have to strip to pee. (I didn’t because I kept thinking I wasn’t gonna boink her while she wore it, because I have a one track mind, and that was a dumb decision.)
Sure. And I think that’s fine advice for most folks, but not everyone knows how to connect with their feelings, or is able to on demand. One example would be people who respond to conflict with the fawn response.
I sort of do this to my wife. She’s unbearably hot. Also sort of hates strangers.
I’m kind of the attention seeker, but she will dress up for me sometimes. Last year we went to a Halloween party where she wore a black skin-tight snakeskin patterned catsuit. She also had on a horned black mask - she was a hot dragon.
I don’t know if I was a small kid or potty trained early, but I distinctly remember having to sit sideways until my parents got an adapter seat, because my (likely malnourished) skinny ass would wind up in the water if I sat straight on.
I’m reading “Fight Right” (by some of the preeminent relationship researchers of our time) and they spend some time discussing an “AI” analysis tool that watches videos of couples interacting for micro expressions, emotional state, and other indicators, which are labeled and summarized for therapists to use as a diagnostic tool.
I’ve kind of wished for a non-creepy version of something like that. Something to tell me I’m spiraling, talking too much about nothing important, or letting fear or anger win in my interactions.
This — is not that. It’s just an “AI” agent that acts as a third wheel in your relationship, and seemingly, could just by replaced if the couples started using calendars and sock puppets to talk to each other. (Not fake online accounts, but actual pretend sentient beings on their hands to depersonalize the interaction and make it feel safer.)
Big Bill Clinton?
I… guess I never thought of that.

On a review of the blueprint I’m using in HA, it does appear so!

That gray laminate is an instant no.

The freshly sealed surface that’s designed to hold water, not armored vehicles, mind you.
It’s very possible that not only is the unnecessary pool liner damaged, but the underlying concrete is, too.
Nah.

These remotes are Matter over Thread:

Sure – Ikea Bilresa scroll wheel blueprint (Matter) - The Original.
You do have to install the helper scripts and enable the disabled entities for full support, but so far, no complaints.
I use this - IKEA Bilresa scroll wheel. It also comes in a 3 pack for $28.
I’ve got it working in HomeAssistant, and they’re pretty neat. The knob has a click action, and the remote has a click action, too. Clicks on the remote allow you to select between 3 different ‘channels.’

Alas, like a dragon, there are some elements of my (and others) privacy that I hoard.
You absolutely should.

That’s very charitable. I can see it.

At peril of stating the obvious:
You did. You commented.
Side-saddle gang.
