[Video]Zahawi prior to defection to Farage "I'm not British born Mr Nigel Farage, Im as British you are. Your comments are offensive and racist. I would be frightened to live in a country run by you"

Farage on Zahawi in 2022: "I thought Zahawi had principles, but tonight we learned all he's interested in is climbing that greasy pole."
They seem perfect for each other

Lost a lot of respect for him after this.

Did you have much respect for him to start with? As far as politicians go, hes a right shithead
mannycalavera@feddit.uk · 5 pts · 207d
I remember when he was in parliament but outside of government and he seemed quite fair and principled. In government another story but then you have to tow the line. Even when he left government again he seemed like he was fair albeit had a book to sell so a little pushy.
None of that time did I think an Iraqi Kurd refugee would be aligned with Farage the racist man. That is a sharp surprise.
I may not have liked his party or politics but he certainly wasn't the worst around in his time. Now I am not so sure.

yeah no, he's constantly been slinging shit at polish people around brexit, then when trump's first presidency came and he was barred from being able to enter the US because he's from iraq he started crying.
he's an absolute hypocritical bell end and always has been.

Scratch a bit beneath the surface though....
He was sacked from govt for tax fiddling
He is a bit murky in his dealings
He likes being heavy handed towards critics [The Time article but behind a paywall so link is archive.is]
Ive not even touched on his time on govt and some of the decisions he was involved in or things he said

*toe the line
I had the same thought process you did on this. Like this man has lived through the islamaphobia, he's very likely had it to his face multiple times, and yet he's defected to reform? Wtf.

😁 I always assumed it was to tow as in to pull as in to pull your weight. Maybe I'm mixing metaphors?
Exactly 💯

He's a hypocritical cunt and just goes with whatever will benefit him personally. He's attacked polish people/EU migrants with the same rhetoric as trump
echodot@feddit.uk · 2 pts · 206d
Wasn't he fired for being dodgy. He was conservative so being a bit corrupt is practically a job requirement but he was stupid and got caught.
Frankly the whole party can get in the sea

I saw a Reform Hive on Facebook earlier, and they're all fuming that Farage let him in, although it seemed mostly about Covid vaccine tinfoil-hattedness.
I don't know why they're all so surprised. Reform will be mostly the same people who already ruined the country once, having changed the colour of their ties to keep their snouts in the trough. Only with an even bigger helping of blaming nebulous "others".

I think this is getting rather hilarious: Nadhim Zahawi failed in bid for peerage from Tories before Reform defection, sources say

You would've thought that he would have enough enough money and influence from being Chancellor not to have to sell himself out. I guess he just wants to chase the power.
