I moved to Melbourne from interstate 15 years ago. I have to move house (to downsize) in a few months, but nowhere feels right. Just picking a suburb has been paralysing.
Over the last couple of weeks a few things have made me think of returning to my home state. Recent discussion with family has solidified it. Iโm going home.
Itโs going to be weird not saying anything about it IRL till itโs settled.
I feel you and I understand. It's weird isn't it having that feeling but knowing your doing the right thing by leaving? Something has changed here and I can't put my finger on it, do you feel the same?
Yeah, absolutely. I went through a rough time a few years back and Melbourne lost its sparkle for me. I really have tried to push past it, but seem to keep struggling with the same stuff. Since coming to the decision to leave, there's been unexpected relief.
Practical plan wise I'm considering UK Brighton and commuting to London for work. Am a pom and Principal in tech and finance/trading so piss easy for me.
But what are you gonna do now that's sparkle has gone? Where you off to?
Sounds like a solid plan! Such a massive move though. Do you have a timeline sorted, or still settling all that?
Iโll be heading back to my childhood city interstate. It doesnโt necessarily have the same sparkle that Melbourne once had, but is comforting and the built in support networks will make it feel less like an uphill battle.
Yesterday I folded and put away the towels, put away half the laundry, applied carpet stain spray after blotting a spill up, did a big tidy of the bathroom and a quick scrub of the shower.
But I didnโt have the energy to scrub the carpet cleaner out or finish the dishes, or wipe the bathroom down.
Eh. It doesnโt really matter if the clean laundry waits in the basket. I think Iโll just do a general tidy of the house and attend to the carpet then hopefully get back on the dishes tonight.
Nicely done. I have had to accept that I will always have some laundry waiting patiently to be put away. Meh. I cleaned and demolished the shower and have got the dishwasher going. Just little bits.
Is there a name for the way a cat keeps their paw lightly on the ground but tips the top of their wrist forward? It seems to be a way of giving attitude when they want something and youโre not paying attention.
::: spoiler It kind of looks like this. Still placed on the ground but pitched forward so it pushes out the top of the wrist/forearm and bends the toes

Your drawing is really good! I knew instantly what you were referring to when I saw it!
Desmond Morris did a whole series of these: Catwatching, Dogwatching etc. back in the 1980s. Please be aware that although he's good on observed behaviour, but his scientific research is now considered a bit out of date, and even at the time of publication was not wholly accepted. Catwatching is probably the best of all his books. In the other ones he tends to stretch things a bit to conform to a pre-existing hypothesis. Which is not good science. The books are fun, but not wholly trustworthy.
Good morning...in my dreams I was at a big conference but I realise now everyone there was a dead person ๐ฑ very random people too...robin Williams...George peแธทl ( and yes there was a very satisfying moment when I told him what I thought of him). The heebies! The heebies!!! Wednesday I start work, then Friday arvo mate from UK is staying over, because of the wedding on Saturday.
And I'm on the rag.
Everything Everywhere All At Once!
At least I'm not the bride having to deal with a narcissistic mother and sister though ๐ #blessed ๐

Today was glorious.
Had a meeting with my manager and one of the directors.
Director is an absolute fucking legend lol
Manager tried some petty bullshit and I pushed back hard.
So much respect for the director. I have my lane now.
It's simple. Stay out of my way so I can make this company money and justify my salary before probation ends.
Now we are all on the same page!
