No shit. I've been saying this for decades. It's a big reason why I stopped playing video games.
The addiction and obsession are insane. Doubtless I'm going to get down-voted for even pointing it out, but it's on the same level as social media or heroin addiction.
I do still play games, but they're TTRPG. No, I can't just do it any time I want, sadly. But when I do play, it's with friends, I'm engaged, we're face to face, and we all participate fully - all without micro-transactions or a subscription. We all long to play again, badly, but we just hold on until the next meet-up.

It's very easy to play video games that don't have these things. Plenty of indie and retro games out there. Not everything is call of duty and fifa.
