A sexually transmitted form of roundworm is making a gross splash in the United States.

The first sentence is wrong. It's not roundworm. Roundworms are actual worms. It's talking about ringworm which is a fungus.

Yes and, not just one fungus but a family of fungi! Also it doesn't have to be sexually transmitted, you can get it from shared surfaces at the gym, public showers and even your pet cat.

I didn't even know I had a cat, so I'm excited for the possibilities!

Every citizen shall be issued a cat from their local ASPCA 5hpxsoWQgA9OsTO.jpg

Isn't it also transmissible by skin contact and not just sexual contact?

frongt@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 193d

Yes. And not just skin-to-skin, but also things like bath towels.

But it's gizmodo, which has always been trash.

Researchers first discovered TMVII in parts of Europe and Asia several years ago. In June 2024, doctors in New York City reported the first U.S. cases, and there have been scattered reports in other major cities since.

This, like so many other things, started elsewhere. Lots of diseases migrate to the USA because so many people travel too the states all the time.
