Yeah the base OS seems pretty much centered around pretty fixed images etc for updates, but thankfully most of what I need can live happily in user-land either under the homedir or detachable storage
Most of my Arch experience is with SteamOS, but thankfully it does seem that once you get your desktop environment running it's pretty easy to deal with software there via the graphical package manager, though I'm not really doing anything crazy other than some add-on packages for Minecraft, Emu and the like.
I've been a pretty strong supporter of Debian, but I've definately run into issues where Stable = behind on the packages needed for the hardware/software I want, whereas Ubuntu's continual pushing of Snap and intrusive BS is just irritating. I often end up with Mint for the more-decent-than-Debian but mostly snap-free experience, but for my next hardware cycle I am considering Arch given most of the "support" documentation mentions running on such.
Yeah, it's a bit fucked to call things "unprocessed anger" etc etc when the things that caused what we're angry about are at best still happening and more likely getting worse.
I've seen certain politicians described as "too angry" before their eventual replacement. You know what, I want an anger politician, just one who is angry about real issues. I want somebody who realizes how shitty things are for the average citizen and wants them to change, then gets angry at the fuckers who sit with their thumbs up their ass with thoughts, prayers and empty platitudes while collecting massive paycheques (and bribes) then actively calls them out.
Note that this doesn't mean I want a dumbass who complains about "foreign smoke " or lies and abuses issues while acting like a petulant toddler who didn't get their way out or personally profit, I just want somebody who actually cares and if they do... then fuck yes they should actually be angry about the way things are and the direction they're going.
That is more or less what the old TrueCrypt (and also VeraCrypt) systems did. One password gets you the real data, the other opens a different partition that could be stuffed with dummy data.
True privacy/security night involve a hybrid, where it opens the device to the fake partition+profile but also kills off internal keys to the real data when the duress is used
Not just car insurance. My house insurance went up 25-30%, and the agent said there's not much point in switching because companies "don't want to take on houses older more than 40yo"
While my general Province hasn't been great for various disasters, my city and neighborhood are on the safer end. The house itself doesn't have any of the nasty stuff like asbestos, aluminum wiring, failure-prone plumbing, etc. The furnace was replaced when I moved in, AC and after tank are new within 5 years, and the roof was just done.
Really? Ripping kids away from their family and having everyone think their parent is as abuser based on an unsubstantiated "tip" from some rando is better?
Hell, it doesn't even need to be able "resisting urges". I'd be more behind a guys-only gym where I'm less likely to end up in some random chick's social media session.
Yes, guys do the social media crap too but at least in my experience they tend towards places that don't involve broadcasting everyone else (except maybe the dudes with the creep glasses, fuck them). I'm tired of having to dodge some glam-girl who has decided to make the beach, park, gym or whatever her personal studio and including me or my kids as unwilling participants in their narcissism.
Yeah, it really depends on the album and the way the artist has put it together. Any sort of "mix" album if matters very little the order you play it in, or which songs. Something Iike a concert recording, an (e.g. Pink Floyd) album where one song transitions to another, or a Rock Opera that tells a story across songs, the specific songs played and order can matter a lot!
I've got my own music collection on a self-hosted server which I can stream to my devices, and would love to have some sort of "not a singular/standalone" flag for songs which really don't fit or sound good outside of the larger album when I'm playing random/mix mode.
Shit, that's terrible. Here's hoping that one day your grey matter can rewire itself in a way that allows you to enjoy games or blinking lights again without side effects

Meanwhile there's me with the opposite issue due to too much coffee
Yeah, is feels like we kinda went from:
Yay, CD's, no more issues with blowing on carts
Yay, hard drives, no more swapping memory sticks
Yay, cloud saves, no more needing to transfer my data between devices
Nice! Online servers so I don't need to figure out that weird networking stuff and can play with my friends wherever they are
Online store, cool I can get a copy of X without needing to wait for Blockbuster/K-Mart to get it in!
Damn, I can't play online because the multiplayer servers are down/busted
Shit, I can't play single player because the login servers are down/busted
Wait... what happened to all my f'ing games!?

Most like the first of many attacks by right-wing nutjobs that resent any platform still exists that isn't pumping their own agenda full throttle...

It's just a fuck you tax at this point
I have a couple PS3's. Bought used. No online games. I think I've bought more of their titles on PC than console.
It's not even a boycott, I just haven't seen value in their recent offerings and would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Both seem pretty fucking bad to me.
They misheard when somebody said they enjoy a nice cold coke in the evening...
And yet there's also a bunch of complaining when a (not very good) movie does poorly in the big office that is because of misogyny, racism, etc.
Funny how you can have a GOOD movie with (talented) female actors of varying ethnicities and it still sells tickets very well.
Yeah, seems he traded his God complex for victim complex in the end...

You know that "both" is an option right, and personally I'd rather they didn't just let malware authors run rampant regardless of income class
Whenever somebody posts about a glory hole I expect to see this one, but it still makes me laugh every time
Seems these days the Republican way is "if we can't find evidence we'll create some"
Mine has a few plastic bits fail but I was able to 3D print replacements
