What's funny is they complain about gender change hormones but shoot tons of testosterone in their thighs because they are too afraid to become feminine.
They already know and being in that environment will only make their hatred, which is projected as hatred of lgbtq+ but is actually self hatred, even stronger.
What's ironic is that, although I'm not a Christian, I'm pretty sure I remember part of the Bible expressing pretty explicitly that Jesus had zero desire to rule over anyone, and I'm pretty sure (2x combo) it was implied that Christians shouldn't either.
I can't remember which part, but I think it was while Jesus was going somewhere and Satan kept trying to tempt him or something idk.
I seem to recall that the very same passage in their Bible that condemns lust as thoughtcrime also prescribes a remedy—and it's to gouge out your own leering eyes, not bar women from public spaces.
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
Thanks for the bible verse, the next time I get asked why I’m not religious, I’ll use “I don’t want to gouge out my own eyes” as the reason. I also don’t want to whip slaves, but I think they removed that after the old testament
God approves and disapproves of slavery in both the new testament and old testament.
Also in matthew 5:17-20 Jesus very clearly states that the old testament is to be followed. So even if the new testament did not include what seems to be approval of slavery, it would still not matter. But the bible also disapproves of slavery. If you want a whole lot of stuff you can quote on what you do not want to do, I would suggest looking up the skeptics annotated bible. They make some great collections.
the bible offers regulations for slavery but i can't find any verse prohibiting all forms of slavery the closest is Exodus 21:16 which just says male slaves are wrong
This isn't barring women from public places, it's a private establishment for men only. I think people are mainly upset about it because of how they pitched it.
If they just pitched it as a men only gym without any other reason, this probably wouldn't be post worthy.
There are plenty of women only gyms within a 30 minute drive of where I used to live (a more metro area). Nothing to care about.
This is a dumb response to the issue but some people, both men and women, do show up to the gym in outfits that are viewed as inappropriate in a vast majority of other places. It's not terribly difficult to keep your attention focused elsewhere but it is understandable that some want to be able to get in a work out without other people's asses in their face on a constant basis.
I'm sure most of Lemmy will call that opinion prudish or something similar but everyone is entitled to their own thoughts on stuff like that. It's true that fashion is a personal choice but I don't see why you would want to do things you know will make others uncomfortable either.
Those new popular female gym shorts that look like they vacuum sealed their ass with a seam going deep into the buttcrack. I really do think that's a bit much. "Just let women wear what they want" yes I agree. That's why I built a home gym instead.
I think that’s a bit dishonest. Revealing and sexualizing clothes like that are obviously going to be distracting. Hell, plenty of straight women could admit to be distracted by it.
It's exercise-wear, the human body is not shameful, it's not everyone else's job to prevent your horniness from being a problem! It's like judging people at the beach for wearing revealing clothing, grow the fuck up!
I didn’t say “shameful”, I said distracting. Human sexuality codes us to take an interest in other people. That’s fine in social contexts, of which going to the beach is basically one. But when people are visiting the gym for a task, taking targeted actions to distract them from it is just rude.
It’s also true that some people’s bare bodies are less appealing to look at. (That can include mine! I don’t mind admitting it) You’re setting a standard that can only ever work for attractive people.
Yes, old ugly wrinkly people will walk around in skimpy clothing and so will everyone else. Idk what puritan gyms you guys are going to but you're supposed to get really sweaty when you work out which is the task oriented reason people where minimal clothes, like at the beach or the pool. The greeks used to do the Olympics butt naked, not for porn or orgy, but because it was the most comfortable way to compete rather than run a relay race in a toga.
I tend to agree with you, but then I remember the convo I had with my mother-in-law about why trans people had to wear clothing that affirmed their gender when it made her uncomfortable…
WTF, I can’t even. I just avoid talking to her as much as possible at this point.
Different situations. She can't force other people to dress differently to appease her, but if they make her uncomfortable (for whatever dumb reason) she's allowed to avoid them.
But also different situations because sex drive is possibly the strongest biological drive that we have, so even if you're not helpless against it your brain can be distracted in a way that it won't get from gendered clothing.
I'm not religious or devoid of self control, or even interested in a relationship with a "gym girl". But I would still wish that the women at my gym chose to dress for function rather than to attract... whatever it is they want to attract. It gets tiresome.
Sex drive ain't nowhere near the strongest biological drive we have, whatever that means. I'm no humanologist, but just off the top of my head, urges to piss and eat are definitely "stronger". You can't trick a full bladder or empty stomach with a simulation of peeing or eating just using your hands.
I think it's lightly disturbing that young gals feel they must dress like their on a porn filming.
But if someone tries to forbid them doing it, I'd be down with the rest of everyone striking and rioting (that's how they do it where I live) because if they want they should be absolutely able to dress however they want (that includes men too ofc).
So I guess education could be a thing, like it's not bad to jog in a tshirt and shorts, don't need to play dress-up for your personal hobbies.
Hey if you dress like that, don't mind me looking. You clearly like to show off and it works, it attracted my eyes. But I won't stare or bother you.
It's partly because I want to respect you and your boundaries, and how you look is not an invitation to bother you, but also because I'm looking for women (I actually am not, I have found someone already) who has more to offer than just good looks and doesn't need to compensate shortcomings by showing off like that.
But don't mind me looking at beautiful women showing off their body. Just not in a creepy or bothering way. But if you drive a sports car, especially when you chose the bright yellow option, it's for a reason: Attentions and compensation and I'm not interested. There are also very comfortable (if not more comfortable) sports clothes that do not show off everything.
It's not only beautiful people that dress this way and that's part of the problem with voicing an opinion on this topic. When you say "people don't need to be mostly naked in the gym" everyone pictures an attractive young woman wearing an outfit they don't personally mind. What I'm saying applies to fat old men, young girls, middle aged housewives, basement dwelling dweebs, and all the other groups of people you may encounter at the gym. If an outfit isn't cool for everyone to wear then it shouldn't be cool for the attractive exhibitionist to wear either.
If we are measuring by that standard, we should all wear the same uniforms. Because if poor people can't afford expensive clothes, it also shouldn't be allowed for rich people to wear them, right? Maybe stairs should be forbidden, because if people in wheelchairs can't use stairs, no one should.
There are things I prefer not to see. Just as everyone has. But who am I to push my preferences onto others, and who are others to push their preferences onto me. People have their right to be who they are. If you don't like it, you can go somewhere else. But this means you also have the right to be who you are.
If we start with restricting these things, then where does it stop? If people aren't allowed to wear tights because some people don't like to look at it, then what about two men kissing in public? Some don't like it, so maybe we should ban that too, or maybe ban kissing in public all for everyone?
Maybe turn it around. If it's cool for some, maybe it should be cool for everyone. If you have a problem with how someone looks (or acts, believes, etc), you are in your right to look and go somewhere else. If someone has a problem with how you look, you still have your right to be who you are.
Restricting people to wear "appropriate" clothing according to certain standards happens in several places on this world. Like many Islamic countries where women need to be partially or completely covered. Or North Korea where people have to wear certain clothes and have certain haircuts.
Nothing I've said should be interpreted as me advocating for a rule or enforcement standard of any kind. I'm talking about the way individuals think about this topic. You're just as free to put your sweaty bare ass cheeks on the chair I'm about to sit on at the gym as I am to call you a disgusting asshole for doing so. I don't get why you would want to though.
There's a difference between being technically allowed to do something and that thing being a good idea to actually do. Society functions best when people make decisions with others in mind. Sure, you can make most decisions with the "fuck you, it's not illegal" mindset but is a society where everyone lives that way the kind of place you want to live?
It literally is cool for everyone to wear at the gym, everyone should wear whatever the fuck yhey want to be comfortable while working out, same idea as going to the beach we wear swimsuits because it's better for swimming not because i think im getting ready to shoot a porn!
I mean come on its the gym you get sweaty that's why people wear less clothes! It's like judging people at the beach for wearing a swimsuit that is inappropriate for an office!
If the sight of living human bodies in any state of dress or undress makes you uncomfortable, maybe that's more your problem than theirs. Your line of etiquette logic is so easily manipulated to abuse and de-humanize people that I can't help but see it as anything but a tool of (usually misogynistic) violence.
"I'm starving, but instead of eating I'm going to try and solve world hunger first"
You can do two things at the same time. And if you're really struggling with your internal thoughts, the answer isn't skip the gym. The answer is find a gym where you're comfortable, and continue to work on your mental issues.
"Just do better" isn't a strategy for improvement. It's a cop out for those who don't want to think about solving the problem.
Distractions can completely derail motivation. It doesn't happen to me because of women at the gym, but if I accidentally have the wrong intrusive thought my motivation is gone and the whole workout ends. I've stopped mid run and just walked out.
Maybe you're neurotypical and don't struggle with this. But not everyone can just "man up and power through", as you're implying should be done.
Aside from all the gay references here this is a real two edged sword. On one hand, get all these right wing misogynist asshats away from women in gyms. Otoh, this is just another recruiting ground and echo chamber for right wing redpill incel BS.
I'm fighting for my right for survival everyday, because I'm five fucking five and some of you tall fuckers like to put what I'm looking for above my eyesight. Seriously I'm glad my proportions are mildly fucked since I ended up with weirdly lanky arms so I can at least reach shit. Seriously who puts the top ramen on the aisle top shelf, that's where the fucken weird ass Korean burn your asshole like your getting fucked by Ghost Rider shit is supposed to go.
One guy kept talking about “fighting for our right for survival” like motherfucker, you’re a 6ft white dude. Chill.
The victim complex is real with these people. An ex's brother-in-law is a hardcore right-winger and his wifi password was donttre@donme. Dude's a white small town EC doc, and also a small business owner just so his practically-stay-at-home-mom wife has something to do instead of sitting around their 3-story house bored while their 3 blonde haired daughters are at private school. The type of person being least tread on
What I don’t get is, the space addressing “censorship in media” is often ultra conservative. How on earth does that gooner crowd reconcile with spaces that are “Anti-sexuality”?
men aren't even allowed to work out together without having their sexuality questioned. god forbid we actually become--gasp--friends with each other! and if that happens, it's apparently only to concoct right-wing plots and figure out clever ways to harass women.
meanwhile, a women's only space is supposedly heaven on earth, even though they'll all be gossiping and backstabbing each other for no reason.
Ok. you blatantly disregarded the context of this post in order to make it some gender-war post about bros who just wanna be bros. That’s stupid.
The title is, just in case you can’t read:
Men-Only Gyms Trying To Protect Christian Men From Lust Get Brutally Ridiculed
So we are OBVIOUSLY not discussing workout buddies, or gym friendships, or even y’know, if gay dudes like going to the gym, which nobody is saying can’t happen. But you went and redpilled it as a war against men because women have spaces away from men exactly because of the kind of men in the article.
This is what Hambrecht and Parsons are doing with their male-only gyms. They’re spreading conspiracies about morality and traditional marriage that cast women as dangerous. They’re promoting men rising up as warrior-kings who are ready to fight evil, and they’re getting rid of women who they claim are ruining everything.
It's real, but also more critical than you'd think, and worth a read:
This is what Hambrecht and Parsons are doing with their male-only gyms. They’re spreading conspiracies about morality and traditional marriage that cast women as dangerous. They’re promoting men rising up as warrior-kings who are ready to fight evil, and they’re getting rid of women who they claim are ruining everything.
EDIT:
To join Parsons’ Christian manosphere, it’s a bit more intense. Gym members must sign a covenant called “Rule of Life” that requires such beliefs as “marriage as one man and one woman,” or “two genders, given by God at creation.” And it requires strict adherence to “the behavioral and moral standards of the Remnant Gym membership agreement.” Their website says, “Christian authority is enforced through ownership, contracts and the courage to hold the line.”
Me looking lovingly (Brotherly) at my fellow Lifter In Christ (above the waistline) after signing the "I Swear I Am Not Gay and ONLY Like Women" Covenant:
I'm sure they display a big anatomically correct Jesus on a cross right over a bench press, all sweaty and ripped in a tiny loin cloth. His cum gutters all glittering in the light with a look of pain on his face that wouldn't be out of place in an S&M club.
Seriously though, why does every gym have that one guy who only wears "Christ is King" tshirts and backpacks? My guy even leaves bibles out on top of his parked bicycle. I'm tempted to go in only wearing Satanic Temple shirts to openly mock him.
In a sweeping investigation of the music of megachurches and political rallies, a journalist asks: How did songs beloved by white evangelicals become the soundtrack of Christian supremacy's war on democracy?
The site isn't what you might think, though. The article is funny, but also a surprisingly good read:
According to the gym’s website, “There was a season of his life marked by homelessness, addiction and spiritual emptiness.” In another video, he admits, “I had a pornography addiction for almost 20 years.”
Mitch Parsons, founder of Youth Group for Men and Remnant Men in Denver, had a similar experience. “I quit four gyms before I built one,” he says on the Remnant Gym website. “I realized the problem wasn’t the gym. It was that no one had built what I actually needed, or what I wanted.”
I know its easy to laugh, but a "porn addiction" can be serious shit. Terry Crews gave some great talks about how it fucked up his life in all sorts of ways.
Also, it's healthily skeptical:
Also, despite how often Parsons mentions having nakedness shoved in his face at the gyms in Denver, it’s unclear what he means by that. Gym policies across Denver require their members to wear shirts at all times. And Denver public indecency laws prohibit exposing one’s genitals in public.
As the empirical evidence for the threat white Christian nationalism presents to pluralistic democracy has mounted over the past decade, various insider defenders of conservative white Christianity — and even some mainstream white Christian theologians — have alleged the term is simply a cudgel. Those who qualify as Christian nationalists on public opinion surveys, they argue, only want to see a role for their faith in the public square....
Donald Trump is an abuser. He is an adjudicated rapist and predator. Donald Trump is a grifter. He is a well-known con man who gets away with the con because so many don’t want to talk about it. Donald Trump is a liar unlike any liar most of us ever have known. And there are enormous consequences to his perpetual lying. Donald Trump is literally the most dangerous man in the world, and you want to label me with “Trump Derangement Syndrome” for saying that.
Porn addiction is not a thing. It's a made up concept slung around by christofascist chuds to hide their actual problem, which is that they have no self control and no respect for others' boundaries.
No, that's not how addiction is defined. Dependency is not addiction. You aren't addicted to food or air. What "porn addiction" proponents are trying to convince you of is that any use of porn constitutes an addiction for which the only reasonable treatment is to stop viewing porn entirely. This is a tactic designed to both control and frustrate men to make them easier to manipulate. It's a shame collar put around their necks to leash them. It's not scientifically valid, they know that, and they do not care. Don't mince words with me please.
So you read it right? So you understand that this doesn't describe the normal human dependency on food? You understand that what they are addicted to is not food itself but some specific foods, because of specific things that eating those foods do for them? I mean, surely you actually read the thing you're throwing in my face and understand how it reinforces what I'm saying.
If you can get food addiction I think you can get porn addiction.
I get the distinction you're trying to make between behavioral addictions and chemical (? I forget the name) ones like alcohol addiction. But behavioral addictions by definition can be almost anything. I'd wager a good portion of us are addicted to our phones, for example.
You may have a point there, but consider this: Absolutely none of the people behind this "porn addiction" meme are qualified professionals in a position to make that distinction. Their disingenuous and manipulative nature is obvious as shit. You can argue about whether or not some form of porn addiction exists all day, but it doesn't matter whether or not it actually exists. They don't care how real it is or isn't. It's a useful tool for them to spread fascism, and that's reason enough to throw it in the garbage.
It's sad that seeking out like minded people who share your values and hobbies is to be mocked. Men go, create a gym for other guys to enjoy a space where they can work on themselves and not to oggle women is a bad thing?
It's worrying that these people need a separate gym because they are unable to control their urges. Seems like they have bigger problems they should be working on tbh.
So what do they do once they are outside of the "safe" gym? If you need a separate workout space because women are around you in gym clothes then you're going to struggle a lot in the rest of your life. Do they need separate beaches, swimming pools, have to stay at home during the summer months?
I'd suggest counselling with a professional would be better use of their time.
For some religious people, lust is a hard sin to fight. A gym can be a tough place to ignore it. It's not hard to understand some people like some time in a place where people understand their struggles and can blow off steam without feeling judged.
So what do they do about summertime, beaches, or swimming pools? How does this lust manifest itself? They have to go over and talk to the women in the gym and say inappropriate things?
I get these men have issues with their ability to control themselves, I'm suggesting that a private gym isn't the solution given how many other times in their life they will be "tested". And why is this specific to religious people? What's religion doing to them that getting them this sexually frustrated they can't share a gym?
Teaching my kids how to act normal by taking them to MAN GYM where half the people there are taking steroids to bulk up and the other half don't know how to talk about anything but GETTING PUMPED
To promote more serious discussion in shitpost: One of the problems of gender separated facilities is it makes everything more complicated for parents like that guy that got arrested for taking his daughters into a women's restroom.
There's a lot to be said about 'safe spaces' but imo those spaces should not include any infrastructure like gym equipment, pools, toilets, operating rooms etc. It makes a lot of sense to separate rooms where people might be disclosing addresses, storing clothing or chatting but its maybe less necessary to separate spaces where toilets and gym equipment exist.
This is why pools are generally co-ed but the changing rooms are usually gender segregated and its often less about protecting people and more about creating less spaces for like a couple to have consensual sex in public.
The idea women are holding these dorks back from exercising is so dumb to me. Humans spent like 80,000 years using unsegregated toilets. But now in the year of our lord 2026 we need to stock two gyms with identical, redudnant exercise equipment because what if dudes are distracted?
At least have the intellectual decency of citing a research paper before demanding a reallocation of society's gym equipment over what is almost certainly a socialization problem by some of the most superstitious people in society.
Hell, it doesn't even need to be able "resisting urges". I'd be more behind a guys-only gym where I'm less likely to end up in some random chick's social media session.
Yes, guys do the social media crap too but at least in my experience they tend towards places that don't involve broadcasting everyone else (except maybe the dudes with the creep glasses, fuck them). I'm tired of having to dodge some glam-girl who has decided to make the beach, park, gym or whatever her personal studio and including me or my kids as unwilling participants in their narcissism.
Personal experience with the Christian-cult: mentally-ill individuals who refuse medical help corralled by narcissistic abusers. Being mentally-ill they make disastrous life-decisions creating hell-on-earth for their progeny. You people are clowns. My disdain for you can not be overstated. Your pastas are narcissists. Stop re-reading the same book that's been repeatedly translated through the eons into different languages--with more edits than any Wikipedia article--hoping you'll find an esoteric cure to soothe your self-loathing. You won't. Leave your cult. Find medical help.
From the outside it appears these people are walking contradictions: they're the most hateful people you'll meet, yet they preach goodness to all men. Once religion was decoupled from the state it became a voluntary institution. The cults of Christianity attract self-loathing individuals who feel they need an external structure to keep them in line. That's why you find so many pedophiles in these cults. They're mentally ill.
Cults should be taxed. Doomsday-cults with a sole focus on expansion (like the cults of Christianity) should be disbanded by force. Healthcare is a human right. States should be providing appropriate care for the mentally-ill. Education is a human right too and cults are a road-block in the state's pursuit of a universal education.
A daily reminder for Australian comrades: Sanitarium is the for profit arm of a doomsday-cult. Do not fund them through the purchase of their products. Do not buy Weet-Bix(TM), Up & Go(TM), etc.. Advocate for cults to be taxed.
From their flock are selected the most deranged for political office. From their financing we get absolute mongrels in politics, like the insipid Scott Morrison: holder of every privilege, but never accountable. Shirking every responsibility placed on him. He would not hold a hose if you were on fire. He'd watch you burn; he'd do everything to not do anything whilst sending thoughts and prayers; he'd then go on a holiday and bill the tax-payer for it and removed that people didn't want to shake his hand.
It's time to put a stop to all these demented cults. Never entertain them. The Catholic cult drains our coffers. Tell them to fuck off.
I mean, when I go to the gym I can’t give a fuck less about who is there. Crazy mofo that lives in the dumpster out back could be in there flipping tables….you do you, just don’t hog the equipment and rack your weights bro.
Dude I don't care about anything, but seriously, working out in all-men gyms just boosts your workouts by so much.
No distractions, no need to get shy, surrounded by pure testostrone, you can take your shirt off, go wild, gorilla monke mode.
Girls are too cute and sweet and I really don't feel comfortable going ape shit in a mixed gym.
I will work out at men only gyms for the rest of my life. Btw, non-mixed gyms are the default in my country so I don't have to go through any special gym for that.
How does that have anything to do with respect to women?
I think on the contrary, one of the reasons I stated is that I don't want to disrespect women with my behaviors when I'm filled with hormones and want to do insane stuff.
So you need to tell how other women should feel around you? Not to mention you openly admit you cannot control yourself when you're filled with Hormones?
Also, your behaviours? If you can't control yourself and your behaviours around women, what makes you think men want to put up with you around them?
Have you ever been to a pro gym or wrestling, MMA, powerlifting gym? It's rough. I'm not talking about sexual stuff when I'm talking about hormones. You just have to be riled up and raging if you're doing serious stuff.
That's why the best most successful teams and male athletes train with their male peers and male gyms.
You clearly have never been serious in sports.
Have you ever been to a pro gym or wrestling, MMA, powerlifting gym? It's rough.
You're not talking about those either. You're talking about gyms just to work out in after or before work. Place the goalposts back where you found them.
This isn't a sexual thing.
No, it's a gender thing. And you think woman are less capable of sharing a gym environment with rough rugged men like yourself who want to do manly man stuff and that stuff and what you do is not a safe space for the petite and pretty/cute/feminine flowers that are the females of our species.
Have you ever been to a pro gym or wrestling, MMA, powerlifting gym? It's rough.
While I personally have not spent much time in pro gyms, my wife is a former Olympic weightlifter who was in a shared Crossfit gym which I have had the experience of visiting from time to time. Never once did any of the women there ever feel like they were uncomfortable around the men because everyone shared the space as equals.
Which is clear as day something you don't want to, or cannot do. You don't look at women as equals. You look at them as cute delicate flowers who can't control your hormones and need to do manly things at manly times.
Which makes you a massive piece of shit.
You're not respecting women. You think you're better than them. You're not an equal, you're superior.
This is a ridiculous measure. I am a Christian, I go to the gym (mixed) and I go, work out and then go home. While it is true that some people, men and women alike, go to the gym to "show skin and muscle", the vast majority go to stay healthy and try (sometimes failing miserably, like me) to be a bit healthier and lose some weight.
Now, let's hear all the people here tell me how being a Christian makes me a far-right Republican pedophile homophobic whatever else.
That way of thinking is so tiresome. If I'm not gay, it makes me a homophobic, if I disagree with anything left-leaning, it makes me a Nazi, if I disagree with anything right-leaning, now I'm a liberal.
While I am disgusted to no end at how so many people is dumping on Jesus, I do understand that the only cure for ignorance is not wanting to be ignorant anymore and doing something about it, like having open minded conversations instead of doing, well, that which I mentioned above.
No wonder this world is failing the way it is. Hopefully more people will understand the merciful sacrifice of Jesus so that everyone that trusts Him does not 'die', but Jas access to eternal life. We all will be removed from this world at some point. Make what you will from this, I for one want to be able to enjoy a new earth when it's time. And if I am wrong, well, no harm done, it is what it is, but if right, I certainly don't want to risk the consequences.
Your first paragraph was enough. You didn't need to go on a schizo rant against somebody that isn't here cause you feel a constant need to defend yourself.
How is it a content need of this is the first time I post about this? And I'm not defending anything, I'm mainly stating my personal facts based on my beliefs, just like everyone else.
I was with you the first 4 paragraphs. But than the Him and merciful stuff started and you lost me.
That is part of why I personally can't get on board with any religion. In one way or the other, it always gets snuck in and subtly trying to convert you.
Yes, for the open conversation. Yes to the fact there is no middle ground anymore and everything is extreme. Yes this whole gym thing is ridiculous.
But no to the Middle Eastern carpenter's sacrifice, eternal life and a new earth.
BTW no downvote from me because I respect your opinion. Even if it is definitely not for me.
I really appreciate it man. See? We disagree, and that's fine, I bet we can also go out for a beer together and dig deeper into this, and into how we're royally messed up in terms of our privacy in the internet and every other aspect of our lives. Thank you. I also respect your beliefs.
Genuinely, as a 15+ year former AoG Christian, you're not being persecuted man, and neither is Christianity. It's all an act keep you on the defensive like this and running back to the church because everyone is out to get you and them.
You're just fine on your own man, and you are a stronger force for good when you are doing it for yourself. It's scary but just think about it for a bit, and don't be afraid to question the things you know in your heart are questionable. All the best to you.
I fully agree with you. The Assembly of God, just like any other church associations out there, are man made and their sole purpose is to manipulate the masses. And even more importantly, church is just a place I go to, going or not going has absolutely no bearing in my faith. All men are flawed, none of us can claim perfection. And finally, I can absolutely make it on ky own with God, I don't need other people for this. I do, however, like going to church every now and then, but it's not like I will drop delivering a time sensitive project because I have to go to church, that's focusing on the things of this world, and I'm not interested.
I was part of a pentecostal church once, those tend to be incredibly toxic and full of lies.
Simple. Though I am (currently, until the day I die) part of this world, my main concern is to make sure my soul, and as many as I can possibly tell about Jesus' love, is saved. Everything else is not really a priority. In my faith, you may call it fantasy, my priorities are God, my family (wife and kids specifically) and my job, in that same order. The rest (going ro church, friends, video games, relatives, physical improvement, etc) Ia secondary and none of them have a specific priority order. That will entirely depend on the moment and circumstances. I hope that answers your question.

Thanks for the bible verse, the next time I get asked why I’m not religious, I’ll use “I don’t want to gouge out my own eyes” as the reason. I also don’t want to whip slaves, but I think they removed that after the old testament
peripinkel@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 19d
God approves and disapproves of slavery in both the new testament and old testament. Also in matthew 5:17-20 Jesus very clearly states that the old testament is to be followed. So even if the new testament did not include what seems to be approval of slavery, it would still not matter. But the bible also disapproves of slavery. If you want a whole lot of stuff you can quote on what you do not want to do, I would suggest looking up the skeptics annotated bible. They make some great collections.

Nothing to care about.
krashmo@lemmy.world · 28 pts · 20d
This is a dumb response to the issue but some people, both men and women, do show up to the gym in outfits that are viewed as inappropriate in a vast majority of other places. It's not terribly difficult to keep your attention focused elsewhere but it is understandable that some want to be able to get in a work out without other people's asses in their face on a constant basis.
I'm sure most of Lemmy will call that opinion prudish or something similar but everyone is entitled to their own thoughts on stuff like that. It's true that fashion is a personal choice but I don't see why you would want to do things you know will make others uncomfortable either.

I think that’s a bit dishonest. Revealing and sexualizing clothes like that are obviously going to be distracting. Hell, plenty of straight women could admit to be distracted by it.
Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works · -1 pts · 19d
It's exercise-wear, the human body is not shameful, it's not everyone else's job to prevent your horniness from being a problem! It's like judging people at the beach for wearing revealing clothing, grow the fuck up!
Katana314@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 19d
I didn’t say “shameful”, I said distracting. Human sexuality codes us to take an interest in other people. That’s fine in social contexts, of which going to the beach is basically one. But when people are visiting the gym for a task, taking targeted actions to distract them from it is just rude.
It’s also true that some people’s bare bodies are less appealing to look at. (That can include mine! I don’t mind admitting it) You’re setting a standard that can only ever work for attractive people.
Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 16d
Yes, old ugly wrinkly people will walk around in skimpy clothing and so will everyone else. Idk what puritan gyms you guys are going to but you're supposed to get really sweaty when you work out which is the task oriented reason people where minimal clothes, like at the beach or the pool. The greeks used to do the Olympics butt naked, not for porn or orgy, but because it was the most comfortable way to compete rather than run a relay race in a toga.
proudblond@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 20d
I tend to agree with you, but then I remember the convo I had with my mother-in-law about why trans people had to wear clothing that affirmed their gender when it made her uncomfortable…
WTF, I can’t even. I just avoid talking to her as much as possible at this point.
tias@discuss.tchncs.de · 5 pts · 20d
Different situations. She can't force other people to dress differently to appease her, but if they make her uncomfortable (for whatever dumb reason) she's allowed to avoid them.
But also different situations because sex drive is possibly the strongest biological drive that we have, so even if you're not helpless against it your brain can be distracted in a way that it won't get from gendered clothing.
I'm not religious or devoid of self control, or even interested in a relationship with a "gym girl". But I would still wish that the women at my gym chose to dress for function rather than to attract... whatever it is they want to attract. It gets tiresome.
mmcintyre@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 20d
Sex drive ain't nowhere near the strongest biological drive we have, whatever that means. I'm no humanologist, but just off the top of my head, urges to piss and eat are definitely "stronger". You can't trick a full bladder or empty stomach with a simulation of peeing or eating just using your hands.

Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 20d
That's the contradiction.
🤷🏻♀️
TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 9 pts · 20d
There are also very comfortable (if not more comfortable) sports clothes that do not show off everything.
krashmo@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 20d
It's not only beautiful people that dress this way and that's part of the problem with voicing an opinion on this topic. When you say "people don't need to be mostly naked in the gym" everyone pictures an attractive young woman wearing an outfit they don't personally mind. What I'm saying applies to fat old men, young girls, middle aged housewives, basement dwelling dweebs, and all the other groups of people you may encounter at the gym. If an outfit isn't cool for everyone to wear then it shouldn't be cool for the attractive exhibitionist to wear either.
DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 19d
It's cool for everyone to wear. Happy now?
krashmo@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 19d
No
TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 20d
Or North Korea where people have to wear certain clothes and have certain haircuts.
krashmo@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 20d

No, that's not how addiction is defined. Dependency is not addiction. You aren't addicted to food or air. What "porn addiction" proponents are trying to convince you of is that any use of porn constitutes an addiction for which the only reasonable treatment is to stop viewing porn entirely. This is a tactic designed to both control and frustrate men to make them easier to manipulate. It's a shame collar put around their necks to leash them.

SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 20d

Prior_Industry@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 19d
It's worrying that these people need a separate gym because they are unable to control their urges. Seems like they have bigger problems they should be working on tbh.
AgentBigCactus@lemmy.zip · -5 pts · 19d
They are working on it. They literally have a way of working on it. Great empathy you have.
Prior_Industry@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 19d
So what do they do once they are outside of the "safe" gym? If you need a separate workout space because women are around you in gym clothes then you're going to struggle a lot in the rest of your life. Do they need separate beaches, swimming pools, have to stay at home during the summer months?
I'd suggest counselling with a professional would be better use of their time.
AgentBigCactus@lemmy.zip · -5 pts · 19d
For some religious people, lust is a hard sin to fight. A gym can be a tough place to ignore it. It's not hard to understand some people like some time in a place where people understand their struggles and can blow off steam without feeling judged.

That line of thinking is what leads to burquas being mandatory in some countries.
Control yourself, not other people.
And if you can't, then get proper help (not a preacher), don't just mask the problem.
Prior_Industry@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 19d
So what do they do about summertime, beaches, or swimming pools? How does this lust manifest itself? They have to go over and talk to the women in the gym and say inappropriate things?
I get these men have issues with their ability to control themselves, I'm suggesting that a private gym isn't the solution given how many other times in their life they will be "tested". And why is this specific to religious people? What's religion doing to them that getting them this sexually frustrated they can't share a gym?

At least have the intellectual decency of citing a research paper before demanding a reallocation of society's gym equipment over what is almost certainly a socialization problem by some of the most superstitious people in society.
phx@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 19d

Cults have flourished here. They're dangerous and degenerative to society. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/feb/13/the-family-great-white-brotherhood-australia-melbourne-cult-anne-hamilton-byrne

Btw, non-mixed gyms are the default in my country so I don't have to go through any special gym for that.

dismay3915@lemmy.world · -4 pts · 20d
How does that have anything to do with respect to women?
I think on the contrary, one of the reasons I stated is that I don't want to disrespect women with my behaviors when I'm filled with hormones and want to do insane stuff.
PhoenixDog@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 20d
So you need to tell how other women should feel around you? Not to mention you openly admit you cannot control yourself when you're filled with Hormones?
Also, your behaviours? If you can't control yourself and your behaviours around women, what makes you think men want to put up with you around them?
dismay3915@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 19d
What are you even talking about.
This isn't a sexual thing.
PhoenixDog@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 19d
You're not talking about those either. You're talking about gyms just to work out in after or before work. Place the goalposts back where you found them.
No, it's a gender thing. And you think woman are less capable of sharing a gym environment with rough rugged men like yourself who want to do manly man stuff and that stuff and what you do is not a safe space for the petite and pretty/cute/feminine flowers that are the females of our species.
And you're a threat.

All the best to you.
jjlinux@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 18d
