Akkoma is better. Look for those.

They removed a lot of cruft and low quality code from Pleroma and in general it is developing at a nice and steady pace. In addition the developers are not right-wing nut jobs.

Akkoma was very slow in 2025, in terms of development.

Pleroma is much more rapidly updated.

If your intent is to connect via app, I suppose you're better off with misskey or one of its forks like iceshrimp. They offer server specific custom reactions and allow crazy code on your posts. I recommend not using them on the web because the pages are HEAVY, like, "did my browser freeze or did it crash?" heavy

Wafrn could also work, it's more tumblr-like than twitter-like and gets you posts from mastodon/misskey and custom reactions

I don't know, you're probably more likely to find Akkoma instances these days. It's pretty similar.

Disroot(dot)org has registrations open. It runs Akomma though
