Online shop's UK county selector

No you can't enter a custom value. Also some of these are subsets of each other.

  • Nine English counties (out of 48 depending on your definition)
  • Four countries ("UK" was already selected in a different field)
  • One city with a famously wide range of definitions
  • and one borough, which is in London, which is in England!

I just had to implement a drop down where users could type their entry because they can’t figure out how to type the first few fucking letters to get to their choice. Really annoying.

Then people got pissy because their browser would sort results in the wrong order (except Safari) so then I had to deep dive into JavaScript (gross). I hate it.

I imagine that whatever shipping service the shop is using will work it out as long as they've got a non-ambiguous street address for delivery.

Other shopping sites will help you with that too...

I don't know how many roads have the same name, but pretty sure it's more than five

Country selectors can also be annoying:

United Kingdom - not in the list.

England - not in the list

Great Britian - Yep

Ebay used to have valid values by shipping method and some names were wonky/overlapping. I wonder if something like that happened.
