I absolutely love this. I've stared at it for 5 minutes and even though it's fairly simple, there's so much to it. The postures and gestures are fantastic.
It's really interesting that you mention that! While it wasn't the inspiration, nor did it dictate the conscious artistic direction of the drawing, I did notice these characters swimming around in the back of my mind at some points when making it:
