There must be someone reading this who is familiar with tanks, how much of a problem is this? I've got no idea what it would take to unfuck this situation.
It's certainly not something where the manual says you should attempt a field repair. Chances are, they did it anyway, though and fucked it up even more.
Based on what I’m seeing in the background, i suspect this is back in garrison near the tank ramp and not out in the field or on deployment.
I’ve seen track get thrown, and had to help fix it, but jesus christ i’ve never seen track get this badly fucked up outside of a tank finding a buried 155mm round the hard way.
At least there ought to be plenty of mechanics nearby to help unfuck the track, and someone to remind the driver to stop quickly if they’ve thrown track.

Less than ideal for sure

I'd even go so far as to say there's a bit of a situation here.

Shouldn't you break the track in a few places and remove it? Or is that not a thing anymore?
JetpackJackson@feddit.org · 5 pts · 170d
It's already broken in one spot, bottom right

Wouldn't dragging this mess onto a transporter be more work than fixing it in the field though?

Not when you have an M88.
But normally this would be fixed in the field. The enlisted are going to have a bad day with breaker bars.

How did you get the beans above the frank?
HikingVet@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 169d
With skill.

Just stick a pencil in one of the cogs and wind it back.

Yeah that could be better.

You'd describe it as optimal, then? 🤔
