I’m not sure. I don’t usually watch a lot of TV shows, except I’m rewatching Stargate SG-1 and Supernatural. Both series have a dropdown in the UI to switch seasons. But, on the home screen under whatever category the show is under, it shows a different season than what I am watching; so I have to re-select the correct season.

YouTube: I see you have watched episode 1, 2, and 3 of a series. Would you like to watch episode 6 next?.

Amazon does this where it puts you a season ahead of where you’re at.

Have they fixed the problem of different seasons/series being set up as completely different shows?

Except when you finish a season, then it puts you back to the first episode of the season you just watched. (Or of the whole series)
