Had to escape. Shit was too tense. All the food is sorted for ol' girl but jeez did that little stint of not eating enough do a number on her mind and mood. Meltdowns about very odd things like overloading a circuit (had dryer, heater, washing machine and hairdryer on). Said I'm going to have to turn the heater off for a bit and all hell broke loose ('you can't do anything right'). Suggested to layer up for a bit (p's have a lot of cold weather stuff)... 'don't tell me what to do'.
Meltdown after weighing her (she's waay down, accusing me of not doing enough), then tipping the ensure I had ready to go in soup down the sink 'because I don't want it'. So I suggested if I can't get enough in we'll have to bypass the mouth which means you'll have to go in... 'you just want to get rid of me'.
GP prescribed her mirtazapine which she refuses. Took one myself (lol not supposed to do that) just to see if it does stimulate appetite and it surely does and would be really helpful. I am/was tempted to chuck it in food but I'm drawing the line at prescription. Happy to go behind her back w/ ensure though.
You try and reason but it just doesn't work. Frustrating af. Not her fault but it's exhausting trying to work out what to do as it changes daily.. so many moving parts.
Have to give respect to those in aged care doing this stuff for a living. It's wild enough just with one person.

Nope. Been pushing for at home IV drip but not my call. When she was in ICU after the resection for a few days you see the BUN (which they did daily) test was bang on. Now she's not drinking nearly enough and lo and behold last test 6 months on at the upper range + . Really frustrating. Quick fix (maybe) but it's just hitting my head against a wall trying to convince ol' boy. He should know but for some reason deaf ears.
He sees it. I think one of the problems (which seems counterintuitive) is due to his line of work he was able to push her through the system very quickly with several issues that happened concurrently. I think he's worried she's overwhelmed. It's sort of a thing where the more you do the more pushback.
It's so hard when they're not in their right mind, topped with all the health and medical stuff. I'm so sorry you're going through this friend, I'm glad you're able to get some time to decompress.
I think the emotion thing is doing my head in. You have to switch it off when doing shit and not take it to heart, then it floods back at the end of the day.
Ethical dilemma but yes I agree. If she canโt understand what the medication is for and that she is dangerously underweight, itโs not informed consent/refusal. Also being starving and dehydrated is not really helping the brain function either. From the comments it doesnโt sound like she is ready for palliative care, doesnโt want to die. So her wishes would be better met by giving her the medication. Perhaps giving sneaky doses for a week or so and see what happens. Reassess if she starts to regain some decision making capacity.
When my dad was alive, in his last years he had dementia and would go on these rants. Getting worked up over nothing. I told my mum to put valium in his drink. She didn't do it often because she hated doing it but it gave her relief from time to time and he slept better.
Here's the thing though. When he was in the army he was commanded to add something in the food (he was one of the cooks) that stops the soldiers becoming horny. He didn't like that so he told the soldiers which food was laced. He got into big trouble for that numerous times. He was convinced hospitals do it to because he could taste it.
My mum felt so bad she asked his doctor if it was ok and he said yes. Yikes.
And I heard utis in elderly can really set them off? But yeah. I think the trip was stressful and people feel more comfortable to lash out at their caregivers
Please care for yourself too. Even without the aggro and criticism at a certain point the level of expectations alone becomes abusive/dominates your life
I wear that sort of thing when I'm at home, but the bigger problem is when I'm at work. When I'm there I have to wear a uniform and I'm also contending with wildly inconsistent heat levels in the building - even without hot flushes people are constantly having to take jumpers on and off, this has just upped the difficulty level!
You will feel relieved and happier after itโs done. Short term discomfort to achieve your needs. Perhaps the person giving you a lift can help you. You can do it.
My mum had a MRI yesterday and said it was the most horrific thing she's ever done. She's had radiation, cancer twice and 4 kids. She's half deaf and said the noise was incredible.
I've had a few MRIs, a couple for my brains and one for my ankle. The nurse/tech gave me headphones and let me have Green Day playing while they scanned my head.
But the noise is actually insane. Have you seen them spin without the covering? It's terrying how huge and fast it goes!
I watched a doco on Netflix called Hack Your Health: The secrets of your gut. It was really interesting. Basically they talked about how gut microbiomes play an important role in our health and the more diverse diet the more healthy biomes we have. There's a very strong connection between the necktop processing unit and the gut level reactor. I'm not sold on the 20-30 different varieties though - perfectly OK to eat a smaller range, so long as the proportion of f & v in your diet is high enough to keep everything ticking over just fine.
They weren't talking about servings. So for instance a salad could have 5 different fruits or vegetables and those 5 count in the 20 - 30 weekly. Very doable. The more diversity the more diversity biomes.
Tried to pull no phone out of my pocket this morning and perfectly yeeted it into the toilet. Could have been a worse fate considering the ensuite is tiled
well shit. Guess who had an adult flea found on them at the vet.
Thankfully we don't have any carpets, curtains now on the line, next lot of hot wash on, beanbag in a vacuum bag in the sun with diatomaceous earth, goop on everyone..... thankfully we don't need to worry so much about skirting boards and cracks, those get dusted with DE regularly for bastard ant invasions

But the framerate is too inconsistent if I wanted to parry my way through Lothric. It's the simpliest Dark Souls but the combat is the tightest.
I think its more of a hardware thing. Nightreign on the big PC runs fine, even online, so it's not a software or a FromSoft problem.
It's pretty good though considering this is the first game that has really made it struggle. I've been mindful of what I play on it but this gives a good sense of its range
The little goblin man stopped by, distracting me from my photos of Melbcat.
Iโve started giving him the Smitten tuna mince cans from her leftover stash as theyโre much higher quality than the pouches and heโs eating more eagerly with those. Having more food. His fur is definitely thickening up a bit and getting shiny with regular feeding and monthly spot ons but some bald spots remain.
I managed to smear some Canesten cream on his ears but I really had to work to do the second one (and then wiped the excess on his back under pretext of patting). I really wish you could explain to them.
The carpet foam is so scented. I have the doors open and the fans going.
::: spoiler spoiler
Was looking in particular at a photo of Melbcat cuddling me a month before her death. A month exactly. She looks so happy. I want my beautiful girl back
:::
I went to Aldi. I didnโt get many things due to only bringing one bag and not wanting to hang around long. But I got some carpet sanitizer spray and my friend spotted bottles of laundry sanitizer rinse which is a big win.
Dettol brand is $20 for 2.5L and Aldi is $6.99 for 2L.
Edit: oof owie the Canesten I originally bought is $25 for 2L.
The Canesten one is the only anti-fungal rinse on the market unfortunately. It is expensive. I love the Aldi sanitiser but when my mother had ringworm we forked out for the Canestan and it worked.
I was looking at sanitisers recently and noticed they all have the same active ingredient except for the Pine o Clean one. Has Canesten reformulated maybe?
There's a woman at work I feel like is just suddenly pregnant. At first I overheard her talking to someone about getting an epidural, then I noticed she was showing, and people were talking about her being pregnant like it was normal. She's been off sick for a bit so I haven't seen her in the office for a while.
This must have been an announcement on one of the days I had off last week, because it feels like this came out of nowhere for me.
Yarra bend park has nice spots. Studley park boathouse, Bellbird picnic area (has a loo, also nice park area just a walk away on the corner of Redmond and Wills st). Kew billabong... Took all my exes to those places and always had a nice time. Lotta private places if you look hard enough nudge nudge wink wink say no more.
I had an incredibly bizarre dream about basically Rome being filled with methed up mutants.
::: spoiler Yuck dream.
It was deranged and uncomfortable and there was a sudden rain storm that closed some roads and I think I lost Yasi and no matter what way I went, I was still going the same way. There was people trying to snatch at me.
There was a truck advertising a unethical university and one of the meth heads was screaming it was all part of North American's Future Travel plans.
However, in the dream I got some very nice mail that made me happy!
:::
I had a really great dream about going to an audition to be a new vocalist for Van Halen. Both Sammy Hagar and Dave Lee Roth were there, as well as Eddie.
We were all jamming outside by the pool with people everywhere doing rock star stuff. It was a very short audition for me because I canโt sing but watching Eddie play was pretty awesome and well worth it. He was so smooth and effortless.
I hate it when morons try to pull one over on you.
Work emailed me yesterday claiming they didn't process my final pay becasuse I still had their laptop and phone. I already told them I would be home Tuesday so they could come get it.
There is no final pay because they gave me annual leave in advance. So I asked them in the email I sent back, to clarify how much the final pay is for.
They dodged the question entirely and just asked again when I'm home.
Motherfuckers, how dumb or dishonest do you think I am? Did you really think I wouldn't return your stuff becasuse there is no final pay?

If you canโt find DE, silica gel dust is more powerful and you can get a rubber bulb for dusting it finely. Itโs sold as Cimexa.

Is it worth running in a VM or not really?
tombruzzo@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 141d

::: spoiler spoiler Was looking in particular at a photo of Melbcat cuddling me a month before her death. A month exactly. She looks so happy. I want my beautiful girl back :::

Pilk@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 140d
I was looking at sanitisers recently and noticed they all have the same active ingredient except for the Pine o Clean one. Has Canesten reformulated maybe?
melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 141d
Oh damn. Thanks for letting me know, I might finish this bottle but fork out for Canesten

Picnic!

Motel, hotel or b n b. During the day you could go bush and find a secluded spot. Bring a picnic blanket.
StudChud@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 141d
Park with bushes, movie theatre (a movie that isn't popular = empty theatre), hotel/motel.
Mondays at a derro pub with pokies. It's quiet, and everyone is sitting at the machines so the dining area/beer garden tends to be empty

I had an incredibly bizarre dream about basically Rome being filled with methed up mutants. ::: spoiler Yuck dream.

Fucking wankers.
Taleya@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 141d
Don't play these games. Tell them that in accordance to federal legislation your final pay needs to be paid out within 7 days of your termination.
