Fun fact. US spending on social welfare programs as a percentage of GDP is over six times what is spent on military...but it's still 22nd in the world.
Also, USA only 18th as a percentage of GDP on military spending.
I feel like projection is a product of a lack of self-awareness.
All of it ties to narcissistic traits; narcissistic personalities speak through and in service of the ego, which the narcissist perceives as infallible and supreme. Therefore the self-reflection required to check oneself before making statements and accusations about the behaviors and beliefs of others is nonexistent.
Besides, even if what a narcissist says about another person can also be applied to them personally, they see themselves as a righteous exception. Perfect example is the narcissist’s prayer.
Even even better, since that pesky slavery thing is still around, let’s make him work at mcdonalds and pay for his own medical care from what little he earns. Even copays.
I mean we little people are supposed to be able to do it with rent and food and stuff as well, surely he can do -just- medical, right?
I was thinking more of a "I have no mouth, and I must scream" kind of scenario where no matter how much he wants to die we keep him alive to suffer more and more humiliation and grovelling.
Don't feed him McDonalds like he wants, make it a veggie Burger King Whopper liquified in a slurry with a full sugar coke once a year to celebrate his removal from office.
The worse thing is, I know, and grew up around, conservatives.
I couldn't guarantee that this is intentional. This is just legitimately how some people view the world, with fact-resistant tribalism and a total lack of self-awareness.
literally a few hours apart from Trumps speech where he says "we can't give heathcare to everyone. there is no money" but they got money for a war no one wants
This guy was mocking a cross dresser whose private pictures and communications were leaked. I asked what he did to deserve being mocked for what he does in private. This guy said he’s married to Christy Noem.
He thinks saying that I love ICE is some amazing argument-winner.
... okay, well, as the accusation is without relevance in the context of this conversation, I'd like to ask, as a moderator, that it be dropped on this comm unless a conversation wherein the issue is relevant comes up.
I mean, it's Iran. They've certainly spent it on numerous unwelcome proxy wars, including sending literal thousands of IRGC members to fight for Assad in the Syrian Civil War.
The remarks made by the MAGA clowns should be the main headlines. Sadly, most Americans somehow absorb this BS and allow the country to fall apart. AmeriKa Last!
Ron Paul was right all along, I blame fiat currencies, if they had to actually raise taxes to fund their military adventurism instead of just debasing paychecks then voters would kick their ass to the curb.
We also wonder why houses can be 10x income now gatekept by 30 year mortgages, its because its underwritten by the money printer.
Whats hard to understand. They use the CPI to determine the money supply should grow at roughly 7% on average, as they survey boomers that bought their house for a sack of potatoes what they would rent their own house for to determine housing inflation, as they deduct the inflating price of goods based on subjective measures of technological improvement like Doby speakers that may or may not offer any tangible benefit, and when people get too poor and substitute to cheaper goods they change the basket.
This then lets them spend large deficits with no fear of default, because their debt gets cheaper to pay back as more currency circulates.
"The government is lying to us about living standards" doesn't relate to the issue of taxes and the national budget, unless you think people are deciding their reaction to declining living standards based on whether the government is telling them their living standards have declined, improved, or stagnated.
Would you like to trace the national debt, defense spending, and deficit through the past century, just in the US? Or should I talk about the massive deficits ran up by European countries even in the golden age (ha) of representative commodity money?
As I said initially, if the government had to directly tax them for all this then they'd actually care about the cost. If their living standards fall thats more of a mystery to them, they blame corporations or whatever their political leaning dictates.
I dont think we did have as large of military waste historically, in fact I think even entering WWII was resisted. Of course places like France and the UK had a well funded military, in order to colonize.
As I said initially, if the government had to directly tax them for all this then they’d actually care about the cost.
... would they? The fucking government under the GOP reduces taxes and increases spending. Functionally, what is the difference between that and increasing spending without increasing taxes? What would be different, in this scenario, speaking from the perspective of the electorate, under a non-fiat currency?
If you think that government policy is only being pursued because it IS sustainable under a fiat system, and that if it wasn't sustainable, it wouldn't be pursued, I have a whole case file of fascinating-yet-horrifying actions of governments and orgs throughout history.
... and also feel the need to point out that it's not sustainable under this system either.
If their living standards fall thats more of a mystery to them, they blame corporations or whatever their political leaning dictates.
Then what is the relevance of the entire subsistence basket point?
I dont think we did have as large of military waste historically, in fact I think even entering WWII was resisted.
We had dozens of interventions in Latin America and Asia during the 1900s, 1910s, and 1920s. The only differences are that life was cheaper then, both politically and financially, and extraction of 'reparations' from occupied countries was more acceptable.
