I don't know why Firefox keeps doing this... Instead of fixing bugs they keep doing these shitty redesign that are always worse.

I don't think you can now. I really dislike the new three-dots menu, now it's hidden a bunch of functionality behind the "More" submenu solely to give an overly large amount of space to other options.

btw for others, If you don't see the "Secret Settings" section, you can enable it by tapping on the Firefox logo a few times (it's in About Firefox).

In the previous update where they introduced this there was a about:config setting to revert, but since the latest update that's disappeared (on ironfox 149 at least).

I also hate the new ui. Especially how it hides the new tab option behind a nonsensical long-press on the show tabs button.

I am also on Ironfox and also hate the new UI.

I use fennec. It has the ui you like and lacks some un-understandable bs that are or used to be present in ff.

Like saving images straight from google image search results and some tracking.

I downloaded fennec, and no, it doesnt have the previous UI. It has exactly the same UI, probavbly because it is based off firefox main build; as such i see no value provided?

I am using fennec for some years now, and it indeed has this UI. It came with an update some weeks ago.
On the other hand Fennec is a really great fork of Firefox, with telemetry and proprietary components removed.

This view is selectable

edit: What am I not understanding. I've had this ui quite long and have not seen any change.

Fennec - F-Droid 145.0.0

It's the latest F-droid offers.

Can't you select from tab view -> three dots -> tab settings -> grid?

edit: It's refreshing to see you have changed the android bottom button order just as I have.

It's not, F-Droid version is 149. You really should avoid browsing the web with such an outdated browser.

Well mine is Fennec 149, and I literally installed today lol so don't ever upgrade!

Please do upgrade and avoid using an outdated browser.

I was hoping that Waterfox would somehow skip this change, but it just updated a few days ago. Now that the new UI is out of beta, I don't see a way of turning it off.

For me, the most irritating part is the way that it jumps a little bit if you only scroll a small amount. Small enough to make the Private/Tabs/Sync bar show up, but then immediately hide itself again. That happens in both grid and list mode.

I've given up. I use nightly, so I just can't disable the stuff I don't like fast enough.

But maybe I want to pick up fighting again. I really enjoyed the 3 day period where they accidentally enabled the tab strip on phones, and I dug into the code a bit. Maybe it's possible to patch all those features so that they can be toggled in settings.

Ha, and that's why I use nightly! Even beta will probably not get that for a few months.

unfortunately firefox upstream is moving towards this, the reverts are only temporary measure...

this one? Settings -> Tabs, set to list

kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 143d

nah, it had smaller grid, so much more tabs would fit. But yes, list is definitely better than current "grid"

I have no idea, I haven't used base firefox in a few years now.
