I never post anything on Facebook and haven't for years. I only keep it for the local community page, otherwise I'd bin it off

And the local community page is mostly filled with fear mongering, right wing propaganda and bot posts, right?

Nah, its mundane. Generally community notices and things for sale. Sometimes it'll be a heads up about suspicious people checking door handles or something.

Fortunately the admins are pretty good at removing the more argumentative stuff from people complaining about bad parking

Mine has two, one which is very vanilla for local events and the like and has a strict no moaning policy. The other one is where the local gossip is and is as unhinged as you would expect.

I keep it for Messenger and because sometimes I need to flog my old shit on Marketplace. But yeah, I’ve not posted on there regularly since 2019.

Meanwhile, I’m almost always on Mastodon and Lemmy.

I stopped using it in 2018. Never looked back.

Yeah, I use it for Marketplace and a wargaming group I admin. Its original use case for me is long gone.

Every now and again I go back to Facebook to see what my more distant friends are doing. I spend about 10 minutes trying to fiddle with my ublock filters trying to hide all the algorithmic content and then give up.

I have private chat groups for various circles of friends and that's a lot more useful for sharing stuff. We'll see if they will be persuaded to Signal when the ads start appearing.

I hope so

Though hopefully they are only falling out of love with big tech social media, as I'd love to see the Fediverse thrive.

I don't have a facebook account and I haven't had one for a while, but the people I know that do still use the platform use it mostly in the context of private group chats or specific features like marketplace. Still, this doesn't feel like a recent change so not sure why the guardian would post this now and not 5 years ago

Purely use it for marketplace otherwise it would be gone. I made a conscious effort to go back and delete years of stuff out of spite towards Meta

Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 137d

Yeah, and even marketplace is full of scams.
