Is that the same level one that my 4 year old is currently doing?
Like, can't be.

A big chunk of the US population is quite literate in a language other than English. Another big chunk never got appropriate instruction for learning when you have dyslexia

"Look, I dunno about geopolitics and just where is the "European Union" on a map anyway? I looked, and it doesn't say that anywhere, so it's clearly made up. Just tell me who the most treasonous corrupt cunt in European politics is, and he'll have my support. It worked great as a criteria here, so I see no reason why it wouldn't work abroad. Bonus points if he rapes kids too."

The guy who might replace him is just like Viktor Orbán was when he first got elected, and could easily become the next Viktor Orbán, so this isn’t as awesome as it might first appear.
Buffalox@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 127d
Why is this shit upvoted? It reeks of Russian propaganda!
Orban is corrupt now, if Orban wasn't corrupt 16 years ago, it seem to me to be fine that Péter Magyar is like Orban 16 years ago.
I have no idea what point you are trying to make, because Péter Magyar will be a huge change in the position of Hungary towards Europe and away from Russia and USA.
That's just stupid, that can be said about everybody.
Typical Russian propaganda rhetoric when something goes against them.

tbh, he's right, many are thinking similarly here.
but that's no excuse to vote differently
Buffalox@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 126d
Is "here" In Hungary? And how much of that is Russian propaganda you think?
Orban basically control the media, are you not aware Hungary is constantly bombed with propaganda?
The way to end that, is to vote for a pro EU candidate, because pro EU is also pro democracy. And Orban is destroying democracy in Hungary.
Yes absolutely, the best vote seems to be for Péter Magyar.
WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 124d
yes it's Hungary. I don't think it's russian propaganda, it's kind of an easy thought to draw yourself if you know where does he come from.
no, obviously I'm entirely unaware that the state TV channels, 99% of local and regional newspapers, lots of news sites and most radio stations are spewing propaganda 24/7.
Buffalox@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 124d
I know he comes from Orbans party, but I also know that Orban wasn't thought to be corrupt in the beginning.
So it seems to me to show character for Péter Magyar that he no longer could stand by Orbam destroying Hungary.
Hungary must I assume have been pro EU to seek membership, and work for years to meet the requirements.
So it seems to me it is Orban that changed, while Péter Magyar maintained his democratic anti corruption values.
You hadn't yet stated "here" is Hungary, so your sarcasm is misplaced.
Your "easy thought" is very likely emphasized by propaganda, it's a typical Putin strategy to make an election seem futile to the opposition. And this is right up that alley.
If you had the thought yourself, you might not have noticed it as propaganda, because of confirmation bias.
WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 124d
that's indeed what he says but it is not obvious whether it's completely true.
Péter Magyar did not part ways back when Orbán became corrupt. He did that just 2 years ago, when Orbán has been corrupt for a very long time and party members had plenty of time to be accustomed to that, and to being defensive when being accused of that (in case of other fidesz members).
before I become a russian propagandist for saying this, I want to say this does not directly mean Péter will be corrupt too. but many people (including me) think that the chance of it cant be ignored. I'll be voting for his party, but I'll keep this in mind.
Orbán definitely seems to have changed, in the very beginning. but maybe he was just a liar, with different motives than he was showing. I don't know how could someone change that much, but it would be an interesting read if it was ever uncovered.
ok, you're right there, I was unclear.
Buffalox@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 124d
My guess is Orban was corrupt from the beginning, but he was hiding it, because that's what you do.
Of course Hungarians need to be vigilant and take note if Péter is just a repeat, but my guess is that he will quickly normalize relations with EU, and to do that he needs to reestablish democratic values.
I guess we at least agree that Orban is bad both for Hungary and Europe, and hopefully Péter will be a lot better for Hungary first, and for that good relations with EU are important too.
EU is all about mutual benefits, if Hungary think it's better to stand with Russia, they are actually free to do that, but then they should not be member of EU.
