It's not actually cost of living pressure, though. This is people who are getting by okay just wasting their money on shit that they'll never use because they think it will save them money in the long-term (because they are stupid). The actual real people who struggle with real cost of living pressures are never the ones panic buying. They can't afford to stockpile like this.

I know there are dumb people everywhere; but with under 30m people in Aus surely the concentration level is much higher... Seems that fkn way... Grumble grumble.
