The world’s No. 1 bro-caster, who has expressed some buyer’s remorse over his endorsement of Trump, stood directly behind the president, who was seated at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office signing an executive order to ease restrictions on medical research and treatments using psychedelic drugs.

Whenever Rogan has a guest on that I think will surely push back on what Rogan is and has been doing in regards to Trump, I watch it just to see if they will say anything. And I'm disappointed every time. I thought for sure, when I saw Bill Murray was on with Joe Rogan, I thought for sure that Bill Murray was gonna push back, and he didn't at all. I naively thought that someone like Bill Murray might be able to get Rogan to see reason.
And then recently David Cross was on Rogan's show, and David Cross is really funny, and I like him. He's super political and he didn't push back at all. Not even a little bit, it was like, what's happening!? I mean, I don't want to give David Cross a hard time about it, but it's like, why did you go on his show? And then not even say anything about how Rogan has conducted himself with Trump.

Probably for the exposure to further his career. Disappointing but he may not actually care about what he says he does.

This, and accidentally legalizing hemp weed are possibly the only positive things to come out of this whole debacle
Willoughby@piefed.world · 23 pts · 121d
no one tell him about November
https://wakenbakery.net/november-2026-hemp-ban-thc-products/
In November 2025, Congress passed H.R. 5371, which rewrites the federal definition of hemp to use total THC instead of just delta-9. This means THCA — which converts to delta-9 when heated — now counts toward the legal threshold. The law also caps finished products at just 0.4mg total THC per container, which would make even a single 5mg gummy illegal.
What Products Are Affected?
Vegan_Joe@piefed.world · 23 pts · 121d
Fuck.
I'm reminded of that early South Park episode where Chef explains that the best way to make a baby cry is to first give it candy.
Then, once the baby is happy, only then do you take it away.
The best way to hurt people is to lift them up first, so the fall back down hurts twice as much...
Willoughby@piefed.world · 4 pts · 121d
Yeah, I'm sick of it too, I'm a regular THC user and this round, I may bite the bullet and quit entirely. Fuck this entire country.

What's the context that I'm missing? What happened in November?

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 121d
Oh, they're banning hemp-derived THC substitutes at the federal level?
I mean it's pointless and shitty, but not surprising. This doesn't seem to effect states' marijuana laws, just the hemp loophole? Unless that site left out important info

The party is in control and they are well aware of November. He doesn't know what is going on.
KelvarCherry@piefed.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 121d
This and reducing marijuana to Schedule III are two popular policies that Democrats are fucking stupid for passing up. If Democrats ever regain power, I do hope this might motivate the party to fully legalize marijuana, psychedelics, and other low-risk drugs like amphetamines.
BygoneNeutrino@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 121d
If Democrats rescheduled marijuana, they wouldn't be able to use the issue to win future elections. I love how Biden waited until last minute to demand the rescheduling of marijuana. If he had done it any sooner, his attempt might have been successful.

Eric@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 121d
Yea, but doesn't go into effect until November. THCA flower is already banned, but edibles and THCA carts are still legal until then. I'm keeping hope that something will happen before though.

This is only an executive order. We know those are meaningless. I’m curious if there will actually be research on something that could go back to being illegal at any time.
artyom@piefed.social · 23 pts · 121d
It might be meaningless legally but we've also learned that the various 3 letter agencies just do whatever the fuck he says anyway.

Kind of ironic that the multi-decade war on drugs that included things like MDMA, psilocybin, LSD were being done by the cons, as a way to "own the libs":

Furbag@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 121d
You can kind of see this as a general win for anybody who is a fan of using psychedelics for treatment of mental health issues, but it's important to point out that both of the people mentioned in the headline have ulterior motives for this move.
Trump wants to get Joe Rogan back on his side after he alienated him with his Iran antics. Joe Rogan is one of the biggest conservative megaphones in the nation and he can't afford to have him be talking shit about MAGA before the midterms, so he'll throw him a bone about this one issue that he doesn't give a fuck about anyway.
Joe Rogan is doing this to be able to hopefully one day self-administer psychedelics, not get meaningful treatment or aid from a professional to guide him through the process and change himself for the better.
I'm not sure which of these two are being more selfish at this point.
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 121d
Well, it's an EO, too, so can be overturned on a whim, so it might be hard to make any long-term research/business plans based on just an EO, especially from this dumpster fire of a "president".
The Democrats should make it priority #1 to reverse and pave over everything with the taint of donnie on it, but in some cases I fear they may overcorrect, and I hope this is not one of them.
GG@kbin.earth · 16 pts · 122d
While I absolutely hate the mango and I am not a fanboy of the bald dude, I am pretty happy to hear psychedelics will be legal. It was about time, man.

Oh you sweet summer child. This is an EO to study them - do you sincerely believe they’re not going to try to sell you new TrumpRx “medicines?” This is not a win as I see it
gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 121d

Honestly psychedelics turned my opinion on living around when I was younger and I was just messing around recklessly with them (I mean, Not too recklessly, safe tested doses and that, but I’m not a doctor!)
I do not doubt it could be helpful or useful ina therapeutic setting, especially when administered by people who know what they’re doing.
But we all know Trump is doing this to win back Rogan, who he needs to keep the roid bros in line
resolute_clover@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 121d

Perhaps with this easing of restrictions on psychedelics they’ll find some new combination of shrooms, horse dewormer, bleach, and toilet seat coke that will bring it back. At a minimum that combo will have you thinking your hair is back.

The rare W from 47
lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 121d
Please help me understand how this is remotely a W. They are never going to willingly give people good things that make life better.
Dalkor@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 121d
It is a W, it'd be more of a W if they hadn't completely fucked grants and medical research funding. The truth is that it's insane what the medical community has to do to research the medical viability of something that was ruled to have no medical viability, despite at the time it was scheduled showing promise and continuing to show promise outside of the states and in the medical studies that have bent over backwards to follow the rules.
Psychedelics were once viewed as one of the most promising breakthroughs in mental health treatment and because of Nixon and Regan and their racist war on drugs, that legacy has been kicked down the road.
I'll concede that it's a minor w, in a sea of shit, piss, and blood. But I'm gonna count my blessings.
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 121d
It's too bad this maladministration is cutting scientific research funding so deeply, so not sure how much any research is going to happen, including this, but....I remain hopeful, I guess.
artyom@piefed.social · -1 pts · 121d
How is it not?
Gerudo@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 121d
This isn't making it legal at all. This is reducing restrictions on research.
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 121d
Even under the absolutely fucking absurd peak of the "War on Drugs", I remember applying to a marijuana research study as a test subject. I didn't get in - they had a battery of questions up front and I assume something I answered there resulted in rejection, but I knew another student that did it.
Given it was Schedule 1, I'm sure there was not nearly enough, but I guess it still did happen.

lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 121d
I asked you, after you stated it’s “a W,” to help me understand your thinking. I’ve already given reasons why I think this is neutral at best.
Why do you consider this to be a good thing, after what you’ve seen them do to “science” and “health?”
bedwyr@piefed.ca · 1 pts · 121d
Come now, it's better. Just as breakbone fever is better than malaria. Our country has been permanently seized by gangsters. And your countries are next. Which is not better. We are doomed, doomed I tell you. Unless we organize obviously.
artyom@piefed.social · -4 pts · 121d
Yes, I did read your comment before replying to it. You explained nothing. I don't know how to explain how legalization of readily available an inexpensive methods that have been proven to treat mental illnesses for decades being even considered for legalization is obviously a W.
lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 121d
Can you help me understand how you got to “legalization?”
artyom@piefed.social · 1 pts · 121d
It's in the article:
I'm not sure what other way you could interpret that.
lIlIlIlIlIlIl@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 121d
Oh ok well if it’s in the article, that must mean MAGA will just do a great job
