I never understood the pants down as a fashion choice. It seems very inefficient for walking purposes.
Unless it is something akin to a Samurai who cuts off his own pinky tip so as to not be able to grip the sword at maximum strength and showing subservience to his Daiymo.
When you don't have a lot of money, you often get hand me down clothes that don't fit. You then make do with what you have. And if a group in that situation adopts it as part of the culture, it can become cool and starts to be taken in fun directions.
Look at ripped jeans. It used to be a sign of poverty (you can't get new jeans and your parents can't fix them?), now they sell it as a feature.
That said, it's no more ridiculous than ties and buttoned collared shirts. Asphyxiation is a weird cultural fashion.
lol, is this ai? the hands look weird and their pants aren't at knee level anymore, not to mention the rise in quality and the background also looks weird.
Recently, every time I see generative AI I think, damn, it’s probably low quality given the fact.
Any time someone uses slop instead or even putting enough effort to steal a good image, it always means you the viewer would ingest lower quality content.
It truly is the street meat of the digital pallet.

Always thought it was about emulating prison culture to gain street cred: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagging_(fashion)

Very possibly. Though I think that's a very similar answer. Instead of poverty leading to loose clothes, it's poverty leading to incarceration.

Human forms of communication are irrelevant when you’re 8 fingered
