It would have been my sister's birthday today. I am going to go out and have some sashimi in the sun
::: spoiler because I need to say this but it doesn't need reading
Fuck cancer. I miss you every day. The world misses you. You'd be proud of your kids - they are such beautiful humans. I can't believe I am about to turn the age you were when it happened. I'm scared. I miss you.
:::
I get down here, first night crash early, second night wild restlessness, fever dreams / sweats, it's like I've eaten something wrong running to the loo several times, third night all gone, good sleep and everything is back to normal.
Weird. Only happens when there's no one here, no stress, same diet. It's like a weight is lifted, body spazzes out for a day or two then it just stops. Every time.
Missed bros b'day dinner on fri. Very much a tradition, ol' boy always books a restaurant and it's frowned upon if you miss one. This was basically "fuck it I need the purge" don't care who sulks.
Called the p's last night expecting the sulk. Nothing. Was speaking to ol' girl and she was not impressed with bro (arrogant, speaking over). She's a bit more honest about some things in her mental state. Think ol' boy sees that now too. Have been accused many times of driving a wedge in the family by avoiding bro/sil. Not any more though. Finally put to rest (which is a relief, was second guessing myself way too long w/ that).
Sort of a 4 in 1 win. Purge, no shitty dinner, no sulk, now no perceived wedge driving. All I had to do was nothing for 3 days. Amazing.
SIL's family are here on tues. (15 of them) to see her baby for the first time so that is a dinner I'm happy to go to (they're good fun and it'll be nice to see them meet the new addition).
The Purge! I call it "The Clean Out". I name the stages. The first one is Jesus Christ the second one is how is there anything left? the third is all show and no punch. Love a good clean out.
Being told I canโt send or receive email because Onedrive is full and being leaned on to upgradeโฆ
I already copied all the files over to a separate folder previously but just to be sure I did it again so I can drag that one onto a hard drive. Deleted some old recordings and photos I had backups of from Onedrive to free up storage, and unlinked the pc.
I donโt like how everything is a subscription model and in the cloud now. I really need to get the rest of my stuff out of cloud onto my computer and then onto separate physical storage.
We use google at work but I have needed to subscribe to Microsoft for word/OneDrive for a specific job and can confirm it is a stinking pile of poo. Google also but less buggy. I miss when we could buy and own stuff
I had a computer that was getting old, so I've been playing around with using it as a home server setup. I have it running backups, which is quite reassuring.
Fucked up you can't send email because of it. I think Microsoft defaults to putting all your files in onedrive but your computer will have way more storage than the free version. With a bit of copy/paste and rerouting directories for documents and downloads you should be able to free that up
Day 3 or maybe 4 of The Snottening, its a bit hard to tell. Feeling a bit better this morning. I think the nice weather is helping. The hanky tsunami is washed and hanging on the line, much to the dismay of the local maggies who are pretending to be scared of the flapping cloth. They demanded rolled oats reparations for the insult of flappy clothy bits hanging on their personal perching line.
I was planning my day around my dentist appointment, starting to calculate the details of when I need to be ready and how long it will take to get there - then realised it is actually Sunday today and the appointment is tomorrow ๐คฃ
It seems like the kids' laptop has developed a very spicy pillow. To the extent I can't open the case to look at it. I'm hoping I can pry this thing open because whilst it's from 2012 I'd rather save it from becoming ewaste. I just put Wacky Wheels on this thing for them!
I'll try take the battery out one more time when it hasn't been used or on charge for a while. Otherwise, I guess we'll have to chuck it. I have another older laptop that's a massive spec upgrade from this one I'm not using I was figuring out what to do with, it could always be donated to the kids
I'd like to make some nacho cheese again but I'm not in the mood to grate 250g of cheese. Is there any way to get close by cutting it up or using a different technique? I'm thinking maybe a potato peeler?
That's what I might try. This recipe pretty much calls for making a roux, then turning the heat off and slowly stirring in all the cheese so it doesn't get burnt. Maybe I could risk it and leave the heat on low to introduce bigger chunks of cheese then turn the heat off
Frost/GloomHaven are also potentially tens to hundreds of rounds of gameplay. I've some friends that've played it through and it sounds like a marathon of a game.
But seriously, it's impressive a battery from 2011 lasted so long. I should have taken it out when it stopped holding charge instead of leaving it in hoping for the best

Well that's the purge done.
Only in the last 3 years has this happened.
