Home town loony.

From what I know this person is in their early 70s. They will not speak to any members of their family. They just sit at home and watch Fox News and make signs to hang up. This person also updates their signage depending on time of the year he has signs for Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July, Halloween, etc.. on summer days, he will sit on his front porch with Fox News loudly playing so everybody in the neighborhood can hear him. It is very hard to get a photograph of his house because he is almost always at home and if you stop in front of his house, he almost always comes out, and he is usually armed at all times as well.

Woof. I had a neighbor like this at the last place I lived. One series of signs pre-2024 election was how his son couldn't get a job or a wife because of the "immigrants stealing his jobs". Ouch, how would you like your parents posting signs on the street about how you can't get a job or laid. Multiple signs across the yard and ofc a flagpole with the Thin Blue Line variant flying.

Yes this guy is the same way from what I know. When Israel started bombing Gaza he had Israeli flags and a homemade sign saying “kill every Palestinians.”

Is this... 🫴 🦋 Trump Derangement Syndrome?

FoxtrotDeltaTango@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 116d

It’s more like unhinged far right extremism syndrome

Yes.

All the signs proclaiming freedom and then one handwritten sign asking for a speed limit. What a maroon.

I wonder if he would actually care about photographs. If you smile and wave, he'll probably assume you're 'one of the good guys.'

WanderWisley@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 127d

I’ve thought about that, but the fact that he is always armed even if I was pretending to be a maga fan he still might get trigger happy.

I dunno. I took a photo of our hometown loony's yard and he hopped in his truck with a shotgun, took after me. Fortunately his truck doesn't fit on the bike path. Sometimes the safest interaction is to avoid.

I've had neighbors like this and they love to invent problems to be outraged about. Mainly because Fox has trained their brains to crave the dopamine they get from outrage. They're addicted. My point is, everything is a potential problem and they approach it that way. They'll come out screaming every time.

Just the one?

WanderWisley@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 127d

Just one person like this? No, there are quite a few people who are like obviously living in a rural area of America. But this is one of the few places that is within city limits.

pretty landscape though. enjoy that schadenfreude when climate change hits them earlier than other Americans

WanderWisley@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 127d

Definitely yes. When the first snow falls here, even if it’s just a light sprinkle of it he hangs a sign up that says something like “if climate change is real why is there snow on the ground now liberals?”

What does the line under THIS IS AMERICA say? I can't make it out.

We don't redistribute wealth, we earn it. I think?

BruisedMoose@piefed.social · 3 pts · 127d

Ah, makes sense. At first I thought it was "we don't inherit wealth" and I nearly died at the irony.

Might want to blur out the numbers (front door and curb). I mean old assholes suck, but you shouldn't dox 'em, even partially.

Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 127d (1 reply)

Entire neighborhood needs to show up armed and set this fucker straight or run them out of town.

WanderWisley@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 127d

Well you say that…there are 4 other houses within a block that have trump shit up. Not the the extent of this guy but I believe most of this neighborhood is ok with him.

It's always interesting to me thar town loony's politics are always right leaning. Its like doesnt seeing this mentally unwell person become a zealot make you take a step back and re think your position? I have a friend who was falling down the conservative rabbit hole during covid. We knew this guy in our friend group who was always their because well he always was, more than any reason. He was basically a selfish, bully, sexist and we all for the most part disliked him but a good freind in the grouo felt like he was his responsibility i guess? we called him asshat, a alt right ashole we eventually cut out of our lives..I said look at Asshat look at what he values and what he believes. Then try to understand how his politics make him asshat and you with ethics and morals should not be attracted to this. A few days later he texted me jokingly saying, the asshat talk was the correct direction, I shouldn't share values of the worst person I know.

Idiots with zero critical-thinking skills actively advertising the fact that they are an idiot with zero critical-thinking skills are relatively harmless
