Auf wiedersehen is more like "see you soon" - not used in a literal sense anyway but you could say auf Nimmerwiedersehen to say "see you never"

Hard disagree. If a compromise or some kind of 'normal' cant be reached, its better to go separate ways. But always keep the option open.
