After getting attacked, I took the bus to the hospital. This asshole's lawyer made it a point that the assault wasn't that bad since I was able to take a bus.
it is the lawyers oath to fight whatever legal argument their client is having to withstand, and you'd want one to do so on your behalf if you'd fucked up too.
The lawers job is to help their client navigate the legal system. That does, sometimes, mean they have to do or say or pretend they believe certain things because their obligation is towards their client and nothing else.
I mean, its a lawyer. And to be fair, its good that that happens. In order for the US justice system to work (the rare times it does) and prevent constant retrials, the defense lawyer needs to be very thorough and provide every possible avenue of defense. It is then the prosecutions job to tear every possible defense down to make it abundantly clear that the defense did and had no legal reason to do what they were accused of.
People say they are sickened by lawyers that are defense for deplorables, but without them doing their job well things would be way worse and even more innocent people would be in jail for crimes they didnt commit because the legal system allowed too much ambiguity.
