I just want more games to let you quit to desktop from the game without having to first "Quit to main menu -> Are you sure? (yes!) -> Loading screen + main menu animation -> Quit to Desktop -> Are you sure? (Yes, i'm goddamned sure!)"

Yeah. I've been abused by enough games that I don't bother to even try to exit with the new ones. It's just quicker and more reliable at this point.

This is why I like games with dev consoles.

~ -> 'quit' -> enter

I stream my screen on Discord a lot and there's been a handful of times I've gotten comments like "Jesus Christ you closed the game fast". Makes me feel like a wizard.

Just save the game from the pause menu, and then close the game from system than main menu exit button.

[SAVES FOUR MORE TIMES IN QUICK SUCCESSION. YKNOW, IN CASE THE PREVIOUS THREE MISSED SOMETHING. CANT BE TOO SURE THESE DAYS.]

I just wish more games would tell you, "Your last save was X seconds ago."

I love it because it tells me what I need to know and it's relatively simple to program (i.e., note current time any time you save or load).

Rise of the Triad

It came out after Wolfenstein 3D but was pretty much overshadowed by DOOM

rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 6 pts · 106d

Yea I'm sure. I think I saved, but this run is borked anyway

More games should let you save anywhere.

I really don’t get how it’s not something every game has

The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 105d (1 reply)

I appreciate that so much now as a parent, because when the kids are awake, I need to be able to stop what I'm doing at any moment. I've been playing a lot of turn-based games for that reason.

explodicle@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 105d

I played so much Skyrim while bouncing my kids to sleep that now they want to play it.

It's a sad thing your adventures have ended here...

I just finished a 13 hour long hardcore Iron Man run in ITR2 in one-shot.

Dying means losing all progress anyway

Don't fear the reaper.

Wow, this game looks fun. This is what VR is for.

whoa is this like a metaphor for death? this is really deep

helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 105d

Yes the good ol' save sequence. -quick save -save game -save game again -make blood sacrifice to the gods -save game -exit game

bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 106d

That would be fantastic in Baby Steps. To be able to wipe out the last few minutes of failure.

Last weekend I made zero progress, but I did it much faster than the weekend before.

CentipedeFarrier@piefed.social · 2 pts · 106d

My gaming pc crashes often enough that I don’t really care when the last time I saved was, its what I'm going with.

I mean when's my last save point? We just made a discovery last week that could help had we known it... 15 years ago? 25 years ago? Hell it's something we could have planned around. It's one of those "shit I would like a reload and a railroad" discoveries. Still gonna help, but I could have saved so much time and effort.
