Madoka.

Even after all these years and rewatches, it can still draw me in. And Magia still sends chills up my spine.

hitagi@ani.social · 13 pts · 106d (1 reply)

Serial Experiments Lain.

I was rewatching a couple of episodes and I had forgotten how eerie and creepy this one was.

Sabata11792@ani.social · 3 pts · 104d

Present day, present time...

Crank@ani.social · 11 pts · 106d

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth - half of the episodes are so fucking dark that you literally can't see shit

flameleaf@ani.social · 10 pts · 106d (4 replies)

Takopi's Original Sin

Unboxious@ani.social · 4 pts · 106d (2 replies)

On the one hand, it's incredibly well-made. On the other hand I'm not sure I ever want to watch that ever again.

MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 105d (1 reply)

That's how I feel about Grave of the Fireflies. I've only seen the first episode or two of Tokopi, but my spouse and I knew we had to put it down at the time. Maybe someday.

Chronographs@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 104d

It took me awhile to finish it too but I’d still recommend finishing Takopi if you started it

Sabata11792@ani.social · 1 pts · 104d

Even the "good ending" is a bad ending.

MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz · 10 pts · 106d (2 replies)

Wierd pick, but Dorohedoro.

The world and main plot are undeniably dark. But at the same time side threads and charachters have a juxtaposed wholesome and positive outlook, and tonally things work like a slice of life a lot of the time.

It's great.

Sicurio@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 106d (1 reply)

Followed up by Dai Dark by the same author

Chronographs@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 104d

No anime for that looks like

Endmaker@ani.social · 7 pts · 106d (4 replies)

Since nobody mentioned it yet: The Promised Neverland

It started with a very strong hook, had a middle section full of suspense, and ended the best way I could hope for.

Echolynx@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 104d (3 replies)

The ending was good?

Chronographs@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 104d (1 reply)

Yeah I never ended up finishing season 2 as I heard it was a mess and non-canon etc

Echolynx@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 103d

That is what took me off from the show.

Endmaker@ani.social · 2 pts · 103d

Yeah

::: spoiler The Promised Neverland ending

They managed to achieve the best possible outcome for Emma's gang, getting everyone out from there.

The only thing they had to sacrifice was one of Emma's ears.

Mirai Nikki Elfen Lied Psycho pass

Top three because I couldn't pick a favourite from them if I tried.

Manalith@midwest.social · 11 pts · 106d (4 replies)

Mirai Nikki, Elfen Lied, Psycho pass. In case anyone needed commas.

bishoponarope@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 105d (3 replies)

Those were supposed to be on new lines. Will teach me not to supervise my own comments.

Manalith@midwest.social · 5 pts · 105d (2 replies)

I've found in all the mobile apps I've used, ya gotta double enter to get new lines to actually show up. Maybe I'm also doing something wrong, but that's what works for me on Eternity anyway.

zabadoh@ani.social · 2 pts · 102d (1 reply)

That's standard markdown

You can also force new lines by ending a line with two spaces:

End with 2 spaces of the end of the line like this
Then this appears on a new line

Otherwise with one space or no spaces at the end of a line, markdown dictates concatenating the lines

End with 1 space of the end of the line like this Then this gets concatenated on the end of a previous line.

or

End with no spaces of the end of the line like this Then this gets concatenated on the end of a previous line, but with a space mysteriously appearing between the concatenated parts.

Manalith@midwest.social · 2 pts · 102d

I knew I should learn more about Markdown, was thinking about moving notes over to Obsidian but went Anytype instead.

Dusk maiden is so fucking underrated!!🫶

Rottcodd@ani.social · 2 pts · 102d (1 reply)

If you're interested, the manga goes into much more detail about the history between the sisters.

orochi02@feddit.org · 2 pts · 101d

Thx for the tip

Area 88 was a gut-punch I wasn't expecting. So bleak.

Smash@lemmy.self-hosted.site · 2 pts · 105d

The original even more than the reboot

Now and Then, Here and There

Rolder@reddthat.com · 4 pts · 105d (2 replies)

Psycho Pass is good though it’s not SUPER dark. Very dystopian though. Good show.

DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 104d (1 reply)

Only season 1 though for any new people that haven't watched it. What a shame there was only a single season... Guess if it got more seasons it could have ruined it /s

Rolder@reddthat.com · 2 pts · 103d

massive_bereavement@fedia.io · 1 pts · 105d

Besides what was said here, Jin Roh was great: a very adult tale in a very well built and believable world.

Sadly it becomes mudled by the tipical strongman political strife from the 80s/90s Japanese drama. But the way military service and trauma is represented is outstanding.

Perfect Blue is also perfect, and blue.

Wolf Children will wreck you, though I guess it isn't really dark but very recommendable.

Also Berserk but only the first season (golden era).

remon@ani.social · 1 pts · 102d

The bus crash arc in The Fruit of Grisaia.

kotsune@ani.social · 1 pts · 104d (3 replies)

Probably Akame ga Kill for me.

orochi02@feddit.org · 3 pts · 104d (2 replies)

Plot is cool for sure but come on, the execution wasnt that Deep or dark

kotsune@ani.social · 2 pts · 104d (1 reply)

True but to be fair I haven’t watched many dark animes yet.

orochi02@feddit.org · 1 pts · 104d
