what spiro had done to you he's just a little purple dragon

Are they literally difficult to swallow? I'm on cipro so I only need a quarter pill every 2 days.

TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 24 pts · 84d (3 replies)

It's not that they're literally difficult to swallow, but that they are terrible anti androgens with even worse side effects. If you live in the US don't want to do monotherapy, spiro is often the only anti androgen you can get prescribed. Always being dehydrated is the tough pill to swallow.

That's what I heard too. My friend said she just couldn't stop pissing all the time.

Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 84d

That was my experience too

Arkhive@piefed.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 83d

WHHHAAAATTTTT!!! I was not informed of this. This makes SOOOOOOO much sense!!

Quokka@quokk.au · 3 pts · 84d

Cypro is so easy. Here’s a pack of a million, take a small bit every few days.

Isn't spiro not great at all as an anti-androgens?
I've heard there are better ones with lesser side effect.

TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 84d (1 reply)

Yes. It's fucked up that certain countries prescribe it as the default

Shirow@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 84d

If it was spyro it would be fine :p Having a pet dragon would be nice :3

snoons@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 84d

just crush it up and snort it like a responsible citizen

Vibi@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 83d (2 replies)

Oh wow, I suppose I should do some additional research! I've been taking it for ~2 years and haven't had issues beyond what I expect from suppressed testosterone. Maybe swapping to a different one would nudge my libido back from the depths 🤔

TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 83d (1 reply)

It's more likely to lower your libido tbh. The true effectiveness of spiro is hard to measure, but other AAs that directly lower t levels might lower your effective testosterone even more. Prog is generally the way to go for libido issues

Vibi@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 83d

My T levels are suuuper low, so I do feel like it is effective on that front. Unfortunately, prog never affected my libido, but everything else has been sooo amazing that it's just something I've learned to cope with. I'm sure I'll eventually explore options with my doctor at some point, so it's always nice hearing other people's thoughts and experiences with things!

spiro doesn't taste good, so that'd be genuinely worse

I do mono via injections and it's worked out great for me. At the same time, injecting yourself isn't easy, and it's not a good idea to rely on others for your dose

itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 84d (2 replies)

If you don't mind needles, monotherapy is cheap and easy

WalrusDragonOnABike@reddthat.com · 2 pts · 83d

Even if you do mind needles, but are able to suffer through them, its cheap and lets you stockpile meds in case there's ever an interruption to HRT supplies. Also, at around the 1.5 year mark, I realized I wasn't nearly as anxious about the needles as I originally was (partly because I switched to smaller needles, so by comparison they don't seem as bad to what I was already accustomed to enduring.

I'm doing bicalutamide for my antiboyotic right now, my only two complaints are that I have to piss all the time (but I'm not dehydrated as long as I drink a decent amount) and my libido is shot, but im gonna talk to my endo about trying progesterone next time I see him, which should hypothetically fix the second one, plus bigger tiddies?

I'm a little over 2 months in to my HRT and I've experienced zero dick shrinkage or emotional hypersensitivity so far, so those are both pluses for me.

Googlyman64@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 83d

Taking it is super easy for me by the way, just one pill per day along with my one E pill per day.
