Feels good to have healthy long nails. And I feel like I've discovered a hack for holographic nails (like Holo Taco), using just Sally Hansen polish from Chemist Warehouse ๐
::: spoiler Two coats of 124 Amethyst Allure, and one coat of 450 Reflection Pool, then a clear top coat.
:::
The picture can't really capture how cool it looks tbh, and it's under my yellow bathroom lights. it looks like a light blue from one angle and a dark purple from another, and the glitter adds such a pretty depth to it. I feel like I'm wearing a $50 bespoke nail polish from some artisan in Spain or smth, instead of the total $20 I spent total on the 2x SH polish and top coat while it was on sale lol
Oooh that's pretty! And what a cool idea to use 450 as a topper. I struggle with that one because I put too much on and get impatient waiting for it to dry and end up with smudges/fingerprints in it.
::: spoiler My current nail look
My current nails are Infinity Nikki inspired Neko Nail Cult in Vanilla Frosting and Canmake topper in Mermaid Scale. Same as you, photos don't show the colour shift or sparkles at all, they are so much more pink in person. I cut my nails today because I'm scared of breaking them at work and of course they've already chipped.
:::
Ooooooo girl that's pretty af!!! ๐๐ I adore the shine and how stark they are! Ooo I know they're phenomenal irl!
I just use Sally Hansen top coat lol. There's a clear one in a red bottle, and I also have SH's 130 Bejewel top coat which I use if my base coat is a solid colour. I find the clear one dries harder and is more resilient, than the 130 insta-dry. It's always so hard when buying a new one, I get decision paralysis.
I think pairing 450 with a dark undercoat (I reckon a dark forest green would be amazing with 450 as a top coat) is the way to go.
I get impatient waiting for them to dry as well tbh, but found it dries quicker if I do multiple thin coats and build up colour that way. One nail always gets globbed with too much though and I have to redo it ha it's the benefit of being unemployed: I can just paint and wait all day for them to dry. I'll have to relegate it to a weekend only activity when I get all employed again lol
That's probably for the best. The Services Vic website is constantly crashing from the load, so it's probably better to be blissfully ignorant for at least a few more days.
The regular bike feels great but the heat and sweat kicks in once I stop. I can do the 30ish ks on the ebike without needing a shower. I only start to feel it after a couple of days riding in a row
Fridge and freezer well stocked with a variety of foods. Well done, me
I have also stumbled upon ideal winter vibes. Iโm not dumb enough to wish for a home with a fireplace, the upkeep is not worth itโฆbut Iโve got a very long YouTube video with the sounds, my warmest lamps lit, the heater very slightly on and the Primordial Desk folded out for some wintery writing
Pure clay from 10cm down to 60cm. Guessing that's alright. Will double down the size of the hole and amount of concrete... if it falls over I'm not digging that shit out again and will dry clothes on their side.
I've started reading Walden by Henry David Thoreau. I've been going back and looking for some of the classic american authors, and I have to say, it's really, really good.
Different than what I normally read of those types of authors, but highly recommended.
Renewed my Shudder subscription, mainly so I can rewatch Dragula seasons ๐
Watched two films last night, strangely both tackling similar themes but with their own distinct framing. Was surprised both random films turned out great!
::: spoiler The first film I watched was sMOTHERed (2025).
An Indonesian film about a successful artist in Jakarta, his college professor wife, and his mum visiting from the village she lives in. This film really surprised me, because I kept thinking it was going in one direction for it then throw more loops and curve balls. It went to some very, very dark places near the end but handled it so well, and from the perspective of a culture I don't belong to.
:::
5/5 hobbits, do recommend but be mindful of the last half hour, because while it felt cohesive with the story it is telling, it was still a shock to me even.
::: spoiler The second film is called Other (2025).
I thought this would be a creature feature, and it kinda is, but the depth of story they give it and the MC is crazy good. I can't really say much without spoiling it heavily, but it is phenomenal. You only ever see the MCs face, every other characters face is obscured; tying in perfectly with the monster only ripping people's faces off. Bits of gore, but not gratuitous, relatively few cheap jump scares, and an amazing story of one woman's preservence in the face of her own trauma.
:::
5/5 hobbits. Trigger warnings if you have a bad mum lol
Yeah, I went into it blind so it was quite... Something. It's told really well though, but it's fucking BRUTAL.
I looked it up last night and apparently it's based on an Indonesian legend of the Ungrateful Child (basically, boy raised by single mum in fishing village, leaves to make money and doesn't return for years. Turns up as an adult super wealthy, but pretends he doesn't know who she is. So on his ship home, a storm happens and turns him into stone. Basically, respect your parents and what they've done for you, otherwise you could become the Ungrateful Child). I think they adapted it really well, but it isn't my culture so perhaps there are things I'm missing.
But yes, I was NOT expecting it dive into the topics it did.
Since when did being racist and bigoted not be something to be ashamed of.
so many strangers talk to me and then say some bigoted point , that they probably heard on Australian mainstream tv, maybe it's my age , maybe I look "Aussie"
I always correct in a way that shows I understand the issue they are discussing, just adding there are other facts ( I don't want to argue, I want to change a racist to a non racist )
mainstream tv did not used to be like this, they might have been anti-union and anti-labour party bastards but they never used to openly use immigration/race/culture as if it was a bad thing
Copying the USA I fear. The murdoch effect has been present here for longer than most people's lifespans. Garbage in, garbage out applies to the media too.
Media realised they get clicks and money when they "discuss" issues like this. When a company does something gross, it's because of money ultimately.
And the uneducated get caught up in it, because it gives them someone to point their fingers at and blame, "migrants are stealing our jobs", "illegal immigration!" (No such thing. There's people who come here "illegally" but then they wouldn't migrants), "the woke left are giving jobs to gasp non-white people, race traitors!" Etc etc so on and so forth. It helps them not have to interrogate their own life choices, or see how the education system let them slip through the cracks. Because in reality, it isn't migrants or the left wing hurting them, it's their own parties they support. But they're so caught up in the blame game, it's easier to blame something tangible (like a demographic) over something intangible (like a company).
maybe I'm just a naive idiot again, thinking that people measure what they hear and see against their own values when really few people think that deeply at all
Driving home from Melbourne was not fun. Lots of surface area for the wind to blow against with a van, it's a nasty feeling when you are getting pushed side to side. I don't know how the road trains go, they have lots more surface area but also a lot more weight to them.
cold and windy out there , my office is toasty, there are two cats in here, dinner of cottage pie was hot and delicious ( I don't care if this is the 3rd night in a row, it's good food )
will listen to some audio book after chores are finished ๐
