"According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase."

So in other words it would have been good but execs gotta come in and make it shit.

As always, instead of making a show for the fans in hope that it appeals to others they want to make a show that alienates the fans and appeals to nobody.

Aka they wanted to make it yet another generic dogshit franchise that appeals to no one in the hopes everyone watches, based on absolutely nothing because that has never happened but middle manglement must try and justify their existence.

Oh no, a series with integrity and depth! Noooooo!

Amazon owns some really good franchises, but they just can’t seem to produce any decent content from them.

Well, that would mean spending money, so what can you do?

Einskjaldi@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 101d

They spent truckloads of money on the ring power show and it was garbage, same with their game division that wasted a ton of money and never made anything. You need vision and a clear focus and lots of careful pre-production.

Landlords own some really good land, they just can't seem to maintain any decent houses on them

Capitalism gonna capital. This is what you get when concepts are legally classified as intellectual property to be hoarded.

I really just want a final season of SGU

Dang. I remember seeing a clip on YouTube of a video chat with some of the SG-1 creators seeming genuinely excited about this.

TV execs are idiots.

tacosanonymous@mander.xyz · 8 pts · 101d (1 reply)

At least they cancelled it instead of putting Jack Black in it.

ulkesh@piefed.social · 3 pts · 101d

I didn’t realize Jack Black was up for a role in it. Can’t have that, no sir. Must cancel the whole project!

Disappointed, but not surprised.

One of the few Sci-Fi's I liked, not sure whether to be disappointed or glad they aren't ruining it.

Hopefully they still do Mass Effect.

The showrunner (Gero) was a writer from original series and they also had the OG showrunner (Wright) and another writer (Mallozzi) as consultants & writers. It would have been amazing.
