The question is not which person to vote for in the general election. The question is also not why did a better person not win the primary.

The question is why is politics such a mess that we are here in the first place?

The answer is that it must be always be this bad; it’s been this way for centuries. And if people think it was somehow better at an earlier stage, because different issues and people were around, then I envy their conviction

The question is also not why did a better person not win the primary.

Because consultancy firm Fight Agency handpicked and trained Graham Platner for their million dollar campaign as their pet project. He's not some random oyster farmer who just decided to go into politics.

You realize that the primary hasn't happened yet, right? It's not until next Tuesday.

My friend, there are places right now that are doing it better.

The problem with "choosing the lesser evil" led to the "evil" gaining acceptance and more foot hold, as they shift ever closer to being downright evil.

this just proves these accustions are fake and made up by the republican mafia

If you read the NYT article they mention three women but only ever talk about one woman's experience and that woman happens to be connected to the Heritage Foundation. Clear as day what is happening here.

Let's also not forget the republicans rape children or unconditionally follow people who do.

And they dated for years! Wow, he's such an accomodating guy, willing to comprimise!! Love to see you chime in to remind everyone women lie about abuse. Maybe there's a reason the liberal women who are mentioned but not discussed at length too, but no it's probably because he's itty bitty innocent and its allll liesssssss

lol so i'm supposed to believe the guy who got ptsd from killing people for the usa is redeemable, but this woman is 100% unreliable and irrideemable for being republican?

She previously worked for the heritage foundation? Yeh and platner was previously a fucking us marine, they sound like a perfect match tbh

It was something that stuck with her through the years, Ms. Fifield said.

“He said this a lot: If anybody ever broke in here, I would rape them,” she recalled, saying that he added that it would not be in “a sexual way, not in a gay way.”

“He was like, I would rape them to show them that I’m dominant,” she said.

Asked about those remarks, a Platner campaign official did not dispute them. A friend who knew Mr. Platner and Ms. Fifield during that period said the comments sounded out of character

the amount of time i am seeing people defend this guy is ridiculous

the article btw, since seemingly no one is linking it https://archive.md/zDww0

Why isn't there a better candidate then?

geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml · 15 pts · 84d

You mean like Maureen Galindo? Because the Fight Agency consultancy "left" launches smear campaigns against every leftist who is actually organic.

For the same reason theres no anti genocide party in the US

There are, like PSL! They are just kept away from the levers of power.

When you can't attack his policies, attack his character. Works every time.

Lol, were you out there claiming the misogynisric reddit comments weren't a bad sign? Got some of your own? Never unpacked maybe?

Look, when women are crowing about how a guy "never hit them" over tense shit like this, he was being a fence sitter on the subject of beating them, & they were trying to justify the situation to stay alive

A seasoned internet denizen would immediately synthesize the sensory information you have into "oh that guy doesn't give a fuck", but thanks for grading my post. Yes, I come online & write absolutely anything I want.

Yeah, man. "The character of elected representatives isn't relevant to how they'll govern" is gonna be a tough sell, man.

Quacksalber@sh.itjust.works · -1 pts · 84d (7 replies)

You never know the guy personally, so there's always risk. But Platner and his wife have been honestly adressing all allegations. I'd rather take my chances with someone that supports all the right policies than with someone "safe" that doesn't.

chuckleslord@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 84d (3 replies)

... he honestly addressed the nazi tattoo? Cause I saw a politician's response to that, rather than an honest response.

Listen, people being skeptical about the Blackrock Mercenary with the now-covered nazi tattoo that can speak pretty sounds like a pretty reasonable stance to take

Nah, man. I'm saying the character of a person is relevant to their candidacy. There are lots of great progressive and DSA endorsed candidates this cycle. Platner doesn't need to be the guy that every one circles around

Continuing to support bourgeois parties will never result in proletarian emancipation. Supporting a violent war criminal with Nazi tattoos is what voting blue no matter who has led to.

Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 12 pts · 83d

Platner is a former imperialist boot, and does have Nazi tattoos, and continuing to support the democrats over any worker-forward parties will not advance the interests of the working classes. These are my claims, I am not OP, and throwing petty schoolyard insults at me rather than responding to my actual claims isn't going to help anything.

No idea what you're insinuating with the caviar bit.

Alleged rapist vs confirmed rapist? I’ll choose the alleged for now, and work to replace him if/when confirmation occurs.

Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 83d (2 replies)

Better to organize in working class parties than continue to prop up bourgeois parties.

VeryVito@lemmy.ml · -2 pts · 83d (1 reply)

Sure, but right now, we need that seat. Letting the perfect be the enemy of the not-quite-as-shitty is what gets us the absolute shittiest.

Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 7 pts · 83d

The Democrats taking the seat is not "us" taking the seat, but a different faction of capitalists. I'm letting good be the enemy of horrible.

EmmiLime@lemmy.ml · 12 pts · 83d (1 reply)

Vote blue no matter who

Yeah even a ruthless mercenary who loves killing people and enjoyed working at Abu Ghraib. Or genocide enthusiasts like Kamala.

Hell "no matter who" even means you'd vote for Trump or Hitler if they were blue lmao
